My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cowboy “Tex”, is a handsome yellow lab mix that checks most of the true Labrador characteristics; loving, loyal, affectionate and loves attention. At 2.5 years old he is 101 pounds, so could stand some weight loss. Tex’s very favorite thing to do is spend time with his people! He is good on the leash and loves going on daily walks and loves to ride. He is a gentle boy but like a true lab he can greet you in an exuberant manner. Tex does have a problem of jumping up, so best to be in a household with all adults and no small children. Tex will prefer a home that isn’t chaotic with people going in and out, so a quieter environment wound suite him best. Tex takes a little time to warm up to new people so proper introductions is a requirement. Tex does like children, but needs to be around older ones that understand how to act around big dogs. Tex rarely barks, but will alert you when someone is in the yard or comes to the door. This big boy is house trained, and crate trained and does well in the house without being crated, doesn’t chew and like any lab you will occasionally get in your garbage or checkout the counter! He sleeps well throughout the night and comfy on a couch, his own bed or yours. He does well with dogs any size that will play with him and fine with cats, but would enjoy a home with another dog his size to play with. He has a medium energy level, he can run and play with the best of them but settles down and enjoys whatever mood you are in.

Tex will need a family that has time to give him all the attention that he needs and so deserves, a stay-at-home or work-from-home individual would be best since he truly prefers being with his people. He requires a leader who will continue to socialize him, that is active; enjoys walking and hiking and can handle a bog dog. Tex would prefer a home with a large fenced in yard he can play in on nice days. Tex does continuously require basic obedience training and a good grounding in house rules. Obedience will help to keep him controllable when he is happy or excited.

Tex is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, heartworm negative and microchipped. Tex is a true companion lab, who would love to a family that can appreciate him. If you are interested in Tex please go and complete our online pre-adoption application http://www.southernskiesrescue.org
