Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dorothy is a 10 year old Chihuahua who landed at a local shelter after being found as a stray. The shelter was concerned about her heart and what they thought was a high grade heart murmur so they reached out to us to see if we could help her out. Once we saw that adorable face, who could say no?
Dorothy is full of spunk and sass! When she wants some love and attention (or food), she will give her foster Mom a few barks and sometimes if her foster Mom doesn’t acknowledge her quick enough for Dorothy’s like, Dorothy has been known to run up to her and lightly head butt her in the leg!
She currently lives with dogs of all sizes and has no problem with any of them. It is a must that she be separated from other animals in the house at feeding time because she loves food and becomes quite protective of it.
Because of the concern with her heart, we took her to a cardiologist who confirmed that her heart is not as bad as originally thought. She does have mild leaky valves, typical for older Chihuahuas but she does not require any medication right now. She also has a wobbly sashay when she walks due to disc disease in her spine, It actually makes her every more adorable and doesn’t seem to bother her at all. We have started her on an anti-inflammatory and pain medication just as a precaution and to see if it helps her get around with more ease. She doesn’t let this slow her down at all though and gets around just fine. At some point, the disc disease may progress so she might need a little more assistance but she is a pretty self-sufficient and determined little girl!
Dorothy is, for the most part, house broken. If she cannot get outside on a regular basis, she will use pee pads.
If interested in Dorothy, please complete an application which can be found at www.seniordoghaven.org. Any questions can be sent to info@seniordoghaven.org.
Please note because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to schedule a meet until we receive a completed adoption application.
