NAME:  Twiggy
BREED:  Manchester Terrier mix
SEX:  male
COLOR:  black
AGE:  3 yrs as of Feb 2021
WEIGHT:  20 lbs as of Sept 2021

FOSTERED BY:  Lara
LOCATED IN:    Bradenton

NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY:

Twiggy is a very loving little guy who is looking for an active forever home. Twiggy has lots of energy and is very, very fast.  He would do best in a home with a fenced yard as daily walks may not give him the exercise he needs.  Another dog his size to play with would be great.  He can be a bit bossy and will need further work on boundaries.  Twiggy needs an adult only home - no children.  He is crate trained and is doing very well with his house training.

NOTE:  Twiggy is a dog can be tricky with some things and is going to need a specific type of home and we will be limiting the area for adoption for him due to this.   At this time we will only consider homes in the following counties:  Manatee, Sarasota, Desoto.    Current or recent dog history is required.

Due to COVID-19 we are a little more limited on volunteers and the availability (and safety) of home visits.   Local applications are given first priority and some out of town areas will not be able to be processed.

At this time, we will only be able to process applications that have an excellent current vet history.  If you haven’t had a pet or verifiable vet history we will not be able to process your application.

Additional adoption info

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and is a responsibility that should be taken very seriously. Our dogs may have been lost, abandoned, abused or surrendered by a previous family and may require time to adjust to a new home. Many times there will be more than one application for a dog but we strive to match each dog with the most appropriate family. At this time, adoptions are limited to within the state of Florida.

Our goal is to place healthy, well-adjusted dogs. All of our dogs are vet checked including spayed or neutered; heartworm tested (placed on preventative if negative and treatment started if positive); up to date on vaccinations; bloodwork; urinalysis; dewormed and provided with any other medical care necessary. Our dogs are also microchipped for permanent identification. Our adoption donation, which is normally $300.00 for adults and $400.00 for puppies, is to help offset these veterinary expenses. Our adoption contract allows for a dog to be returned within 7 calendar days for a full refund; otherwise, all donations are non-refundable after that time. If for any reason you decide you no longer can keep your adopted dog, the dog MUST be returned to Canine Castaways.

More about this rescue

Canine Castaways, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.
