Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATED BIO 08-14-09: Carnie is a very sweet and loving 7 y/o 11# yorkie mix; she is being fostered in The Villages, FL. Carnie's ideal weight should be about 9#, but this little gal loves to eat, and Foster Mom has changed her food so that she is eating a healthier diet of grain-free kibble; she has also been introduced to raw veggies which she loves - yum-yum! She has made a tremendous turnaround since she came into UYR. She has become outgoing and playful, which is remarkable considering the horrid neglect she suffered in her young life. It was determined that Carnie has an enlarged heart from a previous case of heartworms, which was successfully treated. As a result, Carnie will need to be on several medications for the rest of her life - one is Enalapril which will keep her heart as healthy as can be; the other two meds are to relax & dilate her constricted airways and make breathing easier for her, and also a cough suppressant that is being used due to her heart pressing on the airways, which may induce a cough. But don't tell Carnie she's has a 'heart condition'!! No, No! You'd never know it since she loves to keep busy! She is curious about her surroundings and loves to walk around and see what's happening. She also enjoys going outside and smelling just about every flower, plant and anything else she sees - she enjoys life!
Carnie learned quickly to trust humans again, and that humans can have a kind and loving touch - she loves to be cuddled and kissed! Her favorite activity is to lie beside Foster Dad on the sofa while he gently pets her. She sleeps all night long in her own little bed and doesn't make a peep until morning time. She is starting to become interested in toys and puppy play, something that she had never been exposed to previously. This is one smart and sweet little girlie and she will make a lovely companion for the right family. Carnie gets along with other dogs, and she could be placed in the home with another dog close to her age and size, or she would be just as happy as the only dog in the home. You won't find many yorkie ladies that are this wonderful...she had a rough start in life, all she needs is a wonderful family to love her just as she is and treat her like a little princess.
UPDATED BIO 07-15-09: Carnie is a very sweet, but shy, 7 y/o 11# yorkie; she is being fostered in The Villages, FL. Below is what Carnie wrote about herself last night...........
Hi everyone - just a note to let you know that I'm feeling soooo much better. Boy-oh-Boy, my tummy had a hard time with the new foods I was eating, but FM found the perfect food for me and as long as I eat that and nothing else, I won't get anymore 'dire-rears'. It's called Royal Canin and FM said you hafta get it at the vet's office but that's not a problem. I love FM - and sometimes I get jealous when her dogs want to be close to her, too, and will let out a little warning growl, which FM says is sooooooooo not allowed. She kept putting me down down on the floor when I did it but hey!? I'm a smart girlie - I just quit doing it - well, for the most part. I really do like other doggies and would like to go into a forever home with another doggie close to my age - I'm a 'rough & tumble' girlie so FM says that I need a home where I can get a lot of playtime, both with humans and other dogs. I'm now only taking two medications a day and may have to do that for the rest of my life, but they're sure making me feel good! I am very loving and affectionate....FM says that I'm a little "needy" cuz I really like being close to my person and getting my belly rubbed. But since I never ever got any attention in my other home, who can blame me for wanting it now? Did I tell you that I walk very nicely on a leash, and I going on walks? I also like to hide under the bed when there are new people around since I'm kinda timid of new people right now. I'm actually very well-behaved in spite of my tremendous energy and exuberance. I'm learning about housetraining and the little white dog in the house is teaching me that we are supposed ta' go outside to pee-pee and poo, and for the most part I do it. FM said that if she wasn't gone for so long during the day she thinks I would be perfectly housetrained .............I really need a loving and patient home - could it be your's?
UPDATE: 06/23/2009: I had a kind of busy day today. I went to see the vet again and found out that my heart is very, very large. It presses on my trachea when it beats and that is what is making me cough so much. The vet ordered lots of medications for me so now I am on 6 different kinds! Can you please help me out with a donation? Thank you and Yorkie kisses...Carnie
UPDATED BIO 06/08/09: Carnie is a very sweet, but shy, 7 y/o 11# yorkie; she is being fostered in Wellington, FL. Below is what Carnie wrote about herself last night...........
Hi, Carnie here. I'm feeling a lot better now that I'm out of that icky shelter - man, it was loud there! The pretty lady that picked me up gave me a bath and I'm was sooooo happy about that since I had poopies stuck all over me and I didn't smell very good. When I woke up this morning I ate a big breakfast - yum yum! I am very shy; I like to be petted and I like people and get along with other doggies, but I'm more shy than my friend Wendy. Last night, I slept in the corner of Foster Mom's room in a big pile of clothes and I didn't need to sleep up on the bed or with Wendy. There's other doggies that live here all the time, and I get along with all of them. I love my friend Wendy but FM says we don't seem co-dependent or anything like that; she thinks that we could go into separate homes. But I really need a home where my new family will have a lot of patience with me and help me to understand that I can trust people again. Won't you take a chance on me?
INITIAL BIO 06-07-09: MEET CARNIE! She is a very sweet, but shy, 7 y/o 11# yorkie who was rescued from a South Florida shelter today - she is being fostered in Wellington, FL. Carnie has been neglected for a long time as her coat was covered in filfth and poo, and her paws were caked in poo as well, so sad. Carnie came into the shelter with Wendy; Foster Mom will be observing them in her home to see if they are bonded and need to go into a home together. Please watch this site for updates on Carnie as FM gets to know her better.
