My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shasta Marie is a sweet, silly, sensitive, and scared 1 year old Lab/ Greyhound mix. Her adoption fee is $350 which includes her spay, microchip implant, fecal exam, and shots up to date. She is currently in foster. She is fully house trained and crate trained, she is periodically good on a leash but if she gets scared, she will run and take you with her. She came to Hopeful Tails in October 2019. When she arrived it was noted that she was not using her back left leg at all. It was found that she had a pellet lodged in her leg. Our vet wanted to try reducing the swelling before just doing surgery. Sadly, the anti inflammatory drugs alone were unsuccessful. Shasta Marie underwent surgery right before Christmas. The vet was able to remove the pellet. While recovering in her foster home it become evident that being shot had a very lasting effect on her. She does not like loud noises or lots of activity around her. She is afraid and unsure of things above her like ceiling fans, even when not running, lights and shadows. She much prefers to take to safety in her covered kennel or under a table. She has loved every dog she’s met. Enjoys people in small, quiet numbers. Once she trusts you, she will lovingly lean into you for gentle pets and pats of love and reassurance. So does like to run and chase her favorite ball and will playfully nibble you to play along. She has zero fear aggression, her fear sends her into flight mode. That can happen quickly. If something makes a loud noise, she will run. Shasta Marie’s forever home would ideally have a very secure fenced yard to protect her and keep her safe if she goes into flight mode outside. A quieter home would do best. She does love children but not usually the noise that comes along with them. She would do great with another dog in the home to help boost her confidence level. She is untested with cats but would most likely want to play with them. She is a heavy chewer and loves a good bone or frozen Kong to help calm her down and give her something to focus on.

If you feel you might an ideal fit for this gorgeous girl, please reach out and we will put you in contact with her foster.

Please note:
All dogs require a $100 training deposit. Once confirmation of the completion of a training class has been sent to the rescue, you will receive your deposit back in full.

As we are a rescue all of our adult dogs/puppies for adoption must be spayed or neutered. Although we make every attempt to have this done before finding their adoptive families, this is not always possible. Please speak with your adoption coordinator to see of this service has already been performed or they will explain to you if your new dog/puppy will need this service while in your care at no cost to you.

When emailing please include your phone number to help speed up the adoption process. Also, for the safety of our dogs we only adopt within a 2 hour radius of Joliet, Illinois to allow our volunteers to do home checks if necessary.
