My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Omid needs a foster or an adopter! Omid traveled all the way from Iran to the US to meet his new family. He is currently staying with a temporary foster in Washington DC. He’s a real love bug that follows his foster all around her apartment and just wants to be petted and played with. Omid’s been through a lot! This lovely pup was found in a ditch at the side of the road outside Tehran one day by a couple who decided to take him to a vet to get him checked out. Unfortunately, Omid had taken such a hard hit that it broke his spine and paralyzed his back legs. Don’t let that fool you though; he gets around perfectly fine with or without wheels. He was dropped off at Vafa shelter in Hashtgerd, Iran (http://www.cal.ir) where the staff quickly fell in love with him. However, considering that even a perfectly healthy stray dog has a small chance of survival, Omid’s chances were even smaller. Someone was looking out for him though, and regardless of his paralysis a foster was found in the US and a traveler from Tehran to Washington DC that could bring him. On March 24th, 2012 he arrived in DC safe and sound. He has quickly adjusted to his new life, and not to mention his new wheels, which was kindly donated to him. For Omid’s full story, please see: http://www.tinyurl.com/paralyzed-dog-omid and a clip: http://youtu.be/Jukia-n8FEU Omid’s a real gem, he gets along very well with his foster’s two dogs, but can sometimes be growly towards other dogs in the street. He just needs a slower introduction to new dogs, and then he does fine. He is also good with children and recently found himself surrounded by a pack of children that wouldn’t stop petting him. He is very curious and wants to follow you everywhere that he can. He walks very well on a leash (in his wheelchair), doesn’t bark, and is ok with the crate. He can cry a bit in the beginning when you leave, but then he stops. Omid is a special care dog. Because he is paralyzed he is incontinent, which requires some extra cleaning. He does well on his wheels and gets around very well, but would do best in a place without stairs or with an elevator. He also still suffers from some sores on his knees and tail that he got while in the shelter that will need treatment.
