Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Nashville, TN (will adopt out of state for the right fit): Steele is a 2-year-old stud muffin, and he is blind. Steele wasn’t born blind, he is blind due to neglect. He is now trying to function in this world without sight, which can sometimes be scary for him. Recently the eye pressure became too much for Steele and we had to have his eyes removed.🔹This guy deserves a family, and we know they are out there. Please help us find his forever by sharing, commenting, liking, etc.🔹
Steele is looking for a family that is familiar with blind dogs and understands his need for time to adjust to new situations and people. He needs a family that lives with limited stairs and doesn’t move homes/furniture often which will give him the ability to learn and adapt to his surroundings. His confidence increases when he is able to maneuver in his surroundings. He is starting to do zoomies so a fence will be required for our blind man. He will NOT go to a home with children under the age of 12yrs.
Steele knows a few key words like eat, watch, step and house. He functions very well once he adapts to his human and environment. He is cautious of other dogs. He will smell them but tries to avoid them as they scare him; he does not react to them unless they try to engage with him. He needs a companion that understands his disability and can balance his disability such as guiding him. This will take time as Steele will need to build a relationship and bond. He would do best in a home with a female dog; a nurturing "mom like" dog who is low key, loving and submissive. Or he would do amazing as being the only dog in the home but NO MORE THAN ONE DOG (and no cats).
He loves to eat, go for walks and is beginning to like car rides. He is a bit scared of toys but we are working on them, and isn't a fan of loud trucks passing by or walking by barking dogs. He does not react, they just scare him. His foster mom has had to carry him passed barking dogs on his walk before as he will freeze. Basically, being blind is still an adjustment for Steele, but he's making progress! He just needs a family with patience and help him make progress.
Steele has come so far, so he will only go to the PERFECT home. No exceptions on limited stairs and experience with blind dogs.
