Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Doogal is an adorable 18 mos, 26lb young Cocker/Poodle mix who loves to play.
Doogal loves to play ball, loves toys and especially loves hanging out with his foster friends, having hikes and play time. His ideal new home will be active. He would love to have another friendly, energetic young dog to play with, but would also do fine as an only dog as long as his new family has lots of time for one on one with him.
Doogal was surrendered by his owner through no fault of his own, and had been left alone 14+ hours a day in his previous home. We are seeking a family who is willing and able to commit long term to giving Doogal all of the time and attention that he so deserves and thrives on, and will not be left alone for long periods daily.
Due to his poodle mix genetics, Doogal requires daily, deep grooming and monthly clipping to prevent matting, and to ensure that his skin and coat remain healthy and no "pelting/matting" occurs. Please read up on these types of breed mixes and their grooming needs to ensure that you are prepared to commit to this. Doogal's grooming needs were neglected in his previous home which caused him great pain when the fur was so matted that it split his skin. He is now regularly groomed/clipped and maintained.
Doogal is currently thriving on a balance raw diet (Iron Will Raw). He develops ear infections/yeast issues on kibble, so we will require a family who is committed to feeding him a balanced, raw diet, which is very affordable, readily available in most pet stores, and provides him with optimal health. If you have any concerns about raw, we are happy to answer your questions. It is completely safe and extremely healthy.
Doogal is a fast learner who has come a long way since in foster care, with his training. He now knows sit, shake a paw, down, recalls, and walks very well on his harness.
Due to his lack of training and socializing in his first home, he needs a family committed to attending positive based training classes. His new family will be required to provide proof of registration with a professional, positive based dog training school prior to joining his family, to set him up for optimal success. Doogal has already shown us how smart he is, picking up new skills easily and eager to please.
Doogal is great with most other dogs and adult people. Doogal would not do well in a home with cats or children. Doogal becomes very uncomfortable/stressed around children so we are requiring that his home does not have children nor grandchildren living there or visiting.
Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario. We do not adopt out of province and will only accept applications within approx 45mins of Kitchener/Waterloo area (location subject to ability for us to have a volunteer in your area come for a home visit meeting).
We do not accept videos/photos in lieu of home visits.
If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please visit hobohavenrescue.ca to download and submit an application.
Doogal's adoption fee is $550, which includes his neuter, vaccinations, 4DX blood testing, pre-op bloodwork, microchip, deworming, medical treatment for any concerns, and parasite treatment as needed.
This adoption fee doesn't begin to cover the actual costs of vetting, food and care while in our rescue.
All pets adopted from Hobo Haven come with 30 days of free pet insurance through Trupanion Pet Insurance.
For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:
An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a home visit, prior to meeting available dogs. A fully fenced yard is required.
All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, and out of respect for their privacy, we do not allow every interested applicant to visit for this reason, which would also be stressful for the dogs in our care.
Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com. Please be specific with your questions if you'd like to know more about Doogal.
