If you’re a sucker for dreamy brown eyes, a sad story, and a dog who wants nothing more than to snuggle into you, meet Miss Maddie. Maddie came to a sanctuary as a skinny stray with an injured leg & worn down front teeth direct from a county shelter's death row. Fortunately, her gentle spirit & soulful gaze touched the hearts of shelter workers who contacted Save the Animals Foundation for help. From the moment STAF volunteers met her, they agreed … Maddie is something special. Maddie's favorite moments of the day are the parts where people hand her food (still such a novelty to her!) and any time she spends in human presence. Particularly if you spend that time rubbing her belly and velvety-soft head, during which she will gaze up at you adoringly and make you feel as though you are the center of the universe. She also loves to lull in the sun, blissful and belly-up. (Again, especially if there is belly rubbing involved.) She’s getting exposure to normal household activities like 2-year-olds wreaking havoc, phones ringing and vacuums running. (Well okay, maybe not the vacuum thing so much.) She has *wonderful* house manners. Hasn’t had an accident yet. She’s laidback, takes treats gently, is quiet all night long, tends to fall asleep with her head on your foot ... and when she’s really zonked, she even snores. (Bonus points!)
Under STAF's care, Maddie had surgery for a torn ACL and is recovering in a foster home. Her body may be under repair, but there is certainly nothing wrong with this girl’s spirit. I dare you—triple dog dare you—to find a sweeter, sunnier girl. She’s like the Normal Rockwell painting of dogs. And for fellow fans of the "Standard American Brown Dog," she is an absolute beauty!
It’s apparent that Maddie has had a rough life in her four or so years … she's just getting used to sleeping on a soft bed, and she still isn’t quite sure what to do with these “toy” things. But she’s learning what it’s like to be loved and cared for … She loves to nuzzle & cuddle (with dignity.)
Maddie deserves a nurturing soul, with a heart as big as her own. Someone with enough time to give a lot of belly rubs is probably a must. We also think Maddie could make a fabulous shop-dog/greeter for a small business ... because she (a) loves every person she meets, (b) because every person she meets likes her, and (c) because she loves to kick back and watch the world go by. What she lacks in retail experience she makes up for in pure charm.
