Lana is as sweet as can be. She must have a home with a fenced in yard. Apartment life is not for her because walking out in the open on a leash is stressful for her. Currently, she only seems to be able to relax on a walk if she is in the middle of the woods where there are plenty places of refuge if the need should arise—like seeing other people or a loud noise. When she does relax into her walk, she is all nose and sometimes a little rolling in something delicious to share with her canine roommates.

Most of the time she curls up quietly in her bed. When there is little people-traffic at the shelter, she tosses her toys around and howls for her dinner. She visits other dogs outside their cages and has shared the play yard with dogs that are low energy. She seeks affection with a display of her belly when she wants to woo you into letting her stay inside her cage. She will take some time to warm up to new people but when she does, she is the softest cuddle. Please ask about this girl today!

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
