Harrison is an upbeat, fun, happy and sometimes spritely little dude that is a joy to have around. He is a 12 lb. one-year-old male Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix (also known as a “Pom-Chi”) rescued from the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter. We did DNA test Harrison twice to be extra sure. Chances are one parent was a Chihuahua, and the other parent was a Pomeranian. Harrison is a real cutie pie through and through. His coat is all reddish, and his ears are super adorable, not just upright, but slightly up and out. He has little expressions that he makes on his face that are oh so cute, with the little wrinkles, and he is a HUGE tail wagger! He has short legs, and is more pudgy than thin, making him EXTRA cute (he actually looks a bit like a French bulldog mix). Harrison loves to be near, and loves people very much and is big on giving kisses and showing you he loves you!
Harrison acclimated quickly to the rescue routine. He does not seem to have any fears and for the most part carries himself well in the dog pack. He is very companionable, and seems to love people. When I am home, which is most of the time, he is not clinging to me, rather; he goes off and explores the yard or finds a pet bed and chills. He comes to check in with me from time to time to see what I am doing. Other times, he is more interested in being near me.
Harrison LOVES to play with the other dogs here. He spends a great deal of time either playing tug-of-war or keep away with a toy, chasing or wrestling. But Harrison can also entertain himself. He also plays with toys on his own, and his absolute FAVS are the harder chew toys. He gets along with most dogs and if there is another playful dog in the home, playing with the other dog is also a favorite pastime.
Harrison is potty-trained and crate-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment). He is not a marker, but prefers to “go” on the lawn. At the rescue, dogs are crated to eat, sleep, and when folks are gone from home and Harrison is always quiet when I have to crate him. He LOVES his food, treats and rawhides, and has shown no signs of destructive behavior. He has been a fairly easy dog to have around; yet and still, all dogs needs a human leader who also understands their need for structure and training in addition to love.
The best fit for Harrison is a home with a canine pal; i.e., another well-balance, stable dog where Harrison can model and negotiate or even be a playmate. Also (as with most dogs) with another dog, I also think he will be more settled when people leave. I think Harrison’s best fit is a girl dog, a non-dominant boy, or older, calmer boy or girl. I will also consider Harrison to be an only dog, for the right fit, based on the logistics and presentation, and people who are not gone from home for long, extended hours on a daily or regular basis (and no, you do not need to be retired!).
NOTE: We only adopt dogs as primarily INDOOR dogs. Dogs can go outside to play, potty, to sun themselves at will, but should never be excluded to an outside area. You do not need to give a dog the run of the entire house, and an appropriate sized wire crate works very well during a transitional phase.
Harrison is neutered, fully vaccinated, Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Harrison, email Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. In the email, please provide some information about your home, family, other pets, and dog experience. Please also check your spam folder for an email reply from the rescue. If you wish, provide a phone number. Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue is a private, home-based rescue. We do have a process that involves some dialoging and an application (applications are not online); you can read about this process on my website: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com (go to the Adoption Tab). We seek stable homes that can provide a life-long environment for the dogs in our care. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue unless you do not receive a response from your email within 24 hours (evening to night emails may get a response the following morning).
