My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Cooper

I am a 7 month old neutered male, short haired puppy who has lots of energy and would love to have a play mate in my new home, but I'd also do very well on my own if my new family is active and keeps me mentally and physically stimulated.

I was surrendered by my family when my Mom became too ill to care for me, and she wanted the nice rescue people here to find me a new forever home.

She wasn't able to spend much time training me, so I'm still learning lots in my foster home like how not to counter surf or jump up, waiting instead of charging out the door, and I need a consistent routine for my housetraining which is pretty good with consistency but not perfect yet, so you'll need to be sure that I get outside often for potty breaks to set me up for success.

I am a super smart boy, and as a Beagle mix, I am showing my strong hound instincts to follow my nose wherever it goes, and will require a fully fenced yard to keep me safe.

As a Cattledog mix, I'm brilliant and devoted to my humans. I will needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation, but I can also be a bit jumpy and like to grab sleeves when I'm over excited, which is very normal behaviour for a herding breed, so my new family should be prepared to help me redirect to more acceptable behaviours with the help of positive based training classes, as well as ensuring that I receive enough physical and mental stimulation.

All puppies or dogs without the benefit of training in their previous homes will require registration with a positive based training school in order to set them up with a solid foundation of obedience skills and assist their families in being able to understand the specific needs of their breed(s).

For this reason I'm not suitable for a family with small children at this time.

I love other dogs of all sizes, and lived very nicely with a cat in my first home.

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario. We do not adopt out of province and will only accept applications within approx 45mins of Kitchener/Waterloo area (location subject to ability for us to have a volunteer in your area come for a home visit meeting)

If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please visit hobohavenrescue.ca to download and submit an application.

Adoption fee is $450 for seniors (8+yrs), $500 for adult male dogs (1+yrs), $550 for adult female dogs (1+ yrs), $550 for puppies (under 1yr), which includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, 4DX blood testing, deworming, dentals if needed, medical treatment for any concerns, and parasite treatment as needed.
This adoption fee doesn't begin to cover the actual costs of vetting, food and care while in our rescue.
All pets adopted from Hobo Haven come with 30 days of free pet insurance through Trupanion Pet Insurance.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:
An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a home visit, prior to meeting available dogs. A fully fenced yard is required.
All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, and out of respect for their privacy, we do not allow every interested applicant to visit for this reason, which would also be stressful for the dogs in our care.

Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

If you are seriously interested in applying to adopt me, please submit the adoption questionairre available on our website as noted above.
