My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Before calling about this dog, please read our adoption requirements at http://gsrne.org/requirements-for-adopting-from-gsrne.

Kai just turned one year old in November and still has much to
learn. At 90 pounds, he’s big for his age, but he doesn’t know it
all yet. His favorite time is play time, and he loves playing ball
and gnawing on chew toys. Outside in the fenced yard, he can
run like the wind.
In his foster home, he has made friends with both an adult male
GSD and a female. In his original home, he lived with two
children, ages 8 and 16, and he also shared the home with a cat.
It was a townhouse his owner was renting; and when it was sold,
the new owner would no longer allow dogs. Kai’s owner and her
daughter tearfully called GSRNE to find out if we could take him
so he wouldn’t have to go to a shelter.
Kai was placed in a foster home and loved going for his daily
walks and play sessions in a large fenced area. A neighbor and
her female GSD would join in, and the two young dogs had a blast
running and playing together. During the walks, it became
obvious that Kai is not comfortable when a stranger walks
towards him or looks at him for too long. After he barked and
lunged towards some people walking by, we moved him to
another foster home. He has been getting training and is learning
to focus on his handler rather than stress about other people in
the vicinity. Kai is ready to find his forever home with someone
who is experienced with German Shepherds, can give him
confident and consistent leadership and who will be sure to
continue the daily training. If this sounds like you, please call to
request an adoption application or let us know that you are
already on our “approved to adopt” list!
