Special Needs:
Arrival Story: We spotted this cutie at Detroit Animal Care and Control and scooped him up! He was treated and recovered from pneumonia, Giardia (intestinal parasite) and Demodex mange.
Approximate Age/Weight: 8 months old and 42 lbs.
Personality: Happy-go-lucky, busy, affectionate, curious, playful pup describes Spencer! He is looking for a person(s) / family to share adventures with for many years to come. He loves all sorts of toys and running around the yard and picking up sticks and playing fetch. He’s so much fun! We are not sure of his breed but he is longer than he is tall and his long tail is gentle and not likely to wack glasses off of a coffee table.
Spence has a solid sit command, rocks the touch command. is easily redirected (and like all pups, distracted) and working on other basic commands like down, wait, stay, drop-it, etc. He has great house manners, not chewing anything inappropriate. Needs lots of potty breaks to ensure he gets to a rock-solid “house-trained.” Spence is a super sniffer and needs you to give him time to sniff on walks and before doing his business outside. Needs a wide variety of toys. Generally, doesn’t destroy toys but does have a zoomie session every day. Wants to play with other dogs but doesn’t have manners in greeting so he needs a confident dog as playmate.
Food-motivated and takes treats gently. Spence is a good watch dog – will alert his family to anyone who approaches front door from perch at window in his foster home. Good at the vets office and in the car. Spence is mouthy and rough when playing so no small children in home ideal.
Forever home: Would fit into many home situations. Looking for person(s) or family who shares his happy-go-lucky mentality and willing to provide training and enrichment to ensure he grows into a well-adjusted adult companion. Note: He is jumpy and not always polite with kids. **No electric fences, please.
