Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Introducing Shadow, a loving 3 year old American Staffordshire Terrier mix! If you’re looking for a lap dog, this is your girl! Shadow is a beauty who is packed with personality. The only time she is not smiling is when she’s asleep. Shadow is a super friendly girl who loves to be around people—she’s a complete mush dog. She even loved the Vet!! She likes playing fetch with a tennis ball, doing zoomies in the back yard, chewing on nylabones, playing tug-of-war and being as close to you as possible. She is not rough or hyper at all—just a fun, loving playfulness typical of her breed. She plays when it’s time to play, and will quickly snuggle in with you (or on you!) when it’s couch time. Her name serves her well—she is your Shadow and follows you around the house wherever you may go. She is the definition of a velcro dog.
Shadow has had a rough go these past few months. Her owner was a retiree and Shadow was his world. He planned to travel the country with Shadow by his side as he enjoyed his retirement. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with early onset dementia and not too long after he had to enter an assisted living facility. Shadow could not go with him, and for her well-being, she had to be placed in temporary boarding. Shadow was greatly loved by her owner, and separating the two was difficult. A permanent home for Shadow could not be found and care givers were faced with the reality of sending her to the county shelter. Our rescue stepped in and agreed to help her, and she is now in our care living in a foster home.
Shadow is 75 pounds and housebroken, and is both dog and cat friendly. She’s been around adults her whole life. Her foster family has two teenage children, so we have not seen her interact with small children. She knows basic commands and is well-behaved. Shadow is great in a car, and is doing great on her leash walks.
Because she’s a fun, active dog, we are looking for a home with a yard where she has room to play, and preferably a home with older children since we know she does well in that setting.
Shadow has been fully vetted, is heartworm negative and is up to date on all vaccines. She is spayed, microchipped, and on current heartworm and flea prevention.
