Meet Ernie!!
If anyone remembers Teddy Ruxpin that is who we think of everytime we look at Ernie!! He is just a real life stuffed animal! Ernie is a 6 month old blend of Shih Tzu, Poodle and Maltese who has THE softest sable brown coat with bit of silver highlights! He is hypo-allergenic and non-shedding as well!
This little boy and his sister Liza (who is also available for adoption) had a bit of a weird start. The story told to us was odd by the former owners but we met them in a dirt parking lot in the back of a Jack In The Box where they had dogs in a van. In the 6 months they had Ernie and Liza they had never named them, given them any vaccines or groomed them and they were loaded with fleas. The story is that their Maltipoo was impregnated by their Shih Tzu by accident and that they were going to keep all the dogs but that a family member became ill and they didn't have the time. You can see from the last photo of them prior to grooming just how dirty and shy they were.
All we know is that they were both very shut down when they came into rescue although Ernie came around within a day because he just wants to cuddle and be kissed as much as possible! He is in foster care with 6 other dogs (3 German Shepherds and 3 small dogs as well as cats) who have helped to teach him what it is like to be a happy puppy! Ernie LOVES toys, enjoys a good chew and is a great eater. He is a non-marker and although he was afraid of the outside at first does enjoy running around in the yard.
Although Ernie and Liza do not have to be adopted together we are hoping to find a family that would like to.
His adoption fee includes the following:

As we prescreen via email ONLY please tell us a bit about you such as:
1. Your lifestyle, activity level and work schedule.
2. Area you live in and if it is a house or apartment.
3. How many adults, children and pets in the household.
4. Where your pet stays when you are out or at work.
5. Where your pet will sleep.
Some notes to consider before applying for Ernie:
1. Ernie is part Shih Tzu and Maltipoo and will require ongoing groomings every 6 weeks.
2. At 6 months old Ernie is still a puppy and as such requires ongoing training, attention and stimulation to make him the best canine citizen ever.
3. Please make sure you are ready to adopt before coming to see our adoptable dogs. We are a foster based rescue and do not have the space to hold dogs for a couple of weeks while you vacation or make your way to California to come and adopt. We will adopt out of state but ONLY if the potential adopter comes here to adopt in person and that is after a screening by Skype. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS EVER.
4. We are often inundated with emails about our adoptable dogs and try as we might to make everyone happy it is nearly impossible with only one dog and sometimes up to 50 potential families. The more information you provide in your email to us the quicker we will get back to you. If you have written to us before about a particular dog and did not receive a response please do try again. Every dog has different home requirements that we search for so sometimes you are the right fit for the dog we are trying to place.
