My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Chance. He has been very sick. Chance is a 9-1/2 year-old Cairn Terrier/Yorkie mix. He is a sweet, bigger boy at 15.6 pounds. Chance is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.

UPDATED BIO 12/21/2019: Chance came to United Yorkie Rescue after his human parent passed away, and he was left all alone in the apartment for an unknown length of time. We don’t know the details, but somehow he was turned into the shelter in very bad condition. He was suffering from extreme dehydration, and it was feared that he could have organ failure and/or permanent brain damage from being deprived of food and water for many days. He was barely able to move when he arrived at the shelter. We didn’t know if he would make it or not, but we decided to take a “Chance” on him.

Because of the seriousness of his condition, he was picked up from the shelter, and taken straight to the emergency vet, where he remained overnight. It was touch and go for a while, but he’s a fighter and as it turns out - he’s also a winner. Once he was discharged from the vet’s office, he was taken to the groomer, for some much-needed attention. His hair is now growing out evenly and he’s just as handsome as ever.

Fast forward to today - Chance has made it through all of his medical issues, but he was very skittish when he arrived in his foster home. It was obvious he wasn’t used to other dogs (or cats), as he was very standoffish for a while. Slowly, and with lots of patience, Chance is now a well-rounded,happy little boy who gets along great with the other animals in his foster home.

Instead of shying away when you try to pet him, he now comes up and “asks” to be petted. He doesn’t know how to get up on the furniture, but we’re sure that given time and shown how to do it, he will catch on quickly if you want a lap dog. When Chance first arrived in his foster home, he did “mark” his territory in the house. Now that he’s settled in, he is doing a lot better. With some one-on-one attention and continued training from his forever parents, Chance should be able to be house-trained.

If you think that you would love to help Chance continue to love and be loved, and you think you’re a match, fill out his application, and we’ll see!
