Please read all his posts and reach out to his foster to under his behavior and issues before applying. Parker receives numerous inquiries but will need someone who understand dog behavior and are ready for a challenge.
Meet Parker! Parker is a 5-6 year old, 18 lbs., shih tzu mix. He loves affection, being petted, and most of all he loves treats!
Parker was found at a park, hence the name Parker. He was extremely scared, matted and malnourished. After a few days of decompressing, he started to come out of his shell. He currently is scared of being picked up and we think that whomever must have owned him, never gave him affection. He is already crate trained, he loves it, He is slowly starting to jump on his fosters lap and enjoying the affection. He would be ideal in a home with older children and other friendly dogs. We believe he would be just fine with cats. He does enjoy car rides and walks.
Note from his Foster:
Parker does love cuddles and once he trusts you, he loves being petted. He uses doggy stairs to go into bed to snuggle. Parker loves and greets everyone but he does attach to one person in the household stronger. As he feels better and comes out of his shell, you'll find Parker playing with toys and running around with you. He walks extremely well on a leash and will follow you wherever you go. Food is the quickest way to his heart. He is all smiles and will even give a playful grumble to get his meals or treats quicker. Parker isn't looking for playmates, he'd prefer to be the apple of your eye. He's be fine with older animals, quick movements make him nervous, and he does get jealous. He has learned to sit and be petted before his meals and he goes to the door to be let out. We love Parker and he is a great dog but he has challenges that most people may not be prepared to handle. He has issues being picked up or petted too quickly, especially around his face lower back areas. He will show his teeth and sometimes bite. We emphasize this because it is an issue. We believe he was abused but on top of that he has pain issues. He has done better with pain meds and they will be a necessity. But he will need a patient adopter that can understand he can and most likely will be challenging.
Please follow Parker on his fosters IG at @quirky.canines and there you will see all his posts.
