Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lexie is a sweet little Maltese/Yorkie mix (a Morkie!) who is only 16 months old and weighs 8.8 lbs. This little princess is being fostered in North Fort Myers, FL. UPDATED BIO 12/12/2019: Lexie has now been in her foster home for two weeks now and is doing extremely well and settling in comfortably. She finally feels completely safe and unthreatened by unknown noises. She has found the toy box and is very comfortable getting out ALL the toys lol. She loves playing with the appropriate doggie toys and has not done what most puppies do – which is chew on shoes, furniture, etc.
Lexie is now on a high-quality food and has become a hearty eater. Her foster parents continue to work on house-training as it appears that no one has ever taken the time to teach her where it is – and is not – appropriate to do her business. She is receiving a high-value treat when she goes potty outside and she has trained her foster parents to follow her to the kitchen when she come in to get a treat. Lexie is getting a bit better on the leash, and this may be because she is taken out on a regular schedule and is also learning her way around the neighborhood. She loves having her harness put on her since this means she is going for a walk. She is not only a smart little girlie, but has quite the personality as well.
Lexie is slowly learning that not all noises are scary noises, and the growling she used to do when hearing noises is now minimum. She will still bark if someone comes to the door or she sees a worker in the back yard, but when gently corrected, she will immediately stop barking. For this reason, at this time it is felt that Lexie would not do well in an apartment or condo due to her barking. Her foster parents are working with her and this restriction may be lifted in the future. She warms up to everyone immediately and has never attempted to snap or bite. She is a very sweet little girlie who prefers to have a set routine and schedule, and she seems unsure of any changes to her routine and schedule.
Her foster parents are teaching her basic commands like stay, sit, outside and shhh. She is eager to learn new things and delights when she is praised for being such a good girl. Lexie does have some separation anxiety when her chosen person leaves, so she definitely needs a home where there is at least one stay-at-home parent. We are hopeful that as she becomes more familiar with her daily routine and also that she isn’t going to be left alone for long periods of time, this behavior will lessen.
NOTE: Lexie can only be adopted into an adult-only home - no children, please. Lexie needs to be the only animal in the home so she can receive all the attention that this Princess deserves.
