My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NOTE: DUKE IS CURRENTLY IN A FOSTER HOME WHO MAY ADOPT HIM. Duke has to be the sweetest, cuddliest, smoochiest Dachshund/Beagle mix who's ever lived. He adores people, loves to be held, and gives TONS of kisses, and sleeping in bed is the only acceptable spot. Cats are fine, other dogs are fine (as long as they don't try to steal his food or bed), and older kids are fine (he doesn't like the little ones who get in his face and grab him too roughly). Really, though, it's his person that he really wants. He's great off leash and loves going for walks...except for when it's raining - yuck!
Duke came to us after we received a call from a local vet office that his owner was attempting to have him euthanized. She didn't want the expense of medication or a special diet, and she complained that he whined when left alone. Although Duke is only about 5, he looks much older than his age due to chronic skin problems. Allergy testing shows he is allergic to a LOT, so he is now on a special diet that will need to be strictly followed. We feel it is also partially stress related, so hopefully a home with a regular routine and less chaos than the shelter would help too.
Duke is one of a kind and truly deserves the happiest life any dog has ever had...can you give him that? Thanks to a kind and caring person, a donation toward the cost of Duke's adoption has been made as an act of Christmas charity! So PLEASE help Duke find his home for Christmas by sharing! Message us, call 570-376-3646, email secondchanceas@yahoo.com, or stop in during business hours to inquire about Duke.
We do not ask for set adoption fees but instead ask for an adoption donation based on the costs of providing the dog with basic medical care (spay/neuter, vaccines, etc.), normally $150-175 for a male dog. All adoption donations go 100% toward the care of our wonderful animals!
