Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Copper is a handsome 1-1/2 year old male Beagle/Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who was surrendered by his owner to a dog pound. This good-looking boy has a tricolor short smooth coat, a long tail with the traditional white tip on the end, with large floppy ears and the cutest 'grin' :) Copper is a fun-loving boy with lots of energy. His previous owner said that Copper was good with children of all ages. He is good with other dogs but we were told he is not good with cats. Copper currently weighs 38 lbs.
Here is what Copper's foster family had to say about him:
Copper is a well behaved wonderful friendly dog. He loves other dogs and is good with children and strangers. His health appears to be excellent. He is medium energy level but loves outdoor exercise. He loves going for long walks. He is curious about everything outside. He appears to be the age we were told, as he is well behaved most of the time yet still has some puppy energy. He sheds moderately. His hair isn't super noticeable but it's there when I vacuum.
Copper is good with all ages. He doesn't play much with children but is gentle and kind to them. He loves other dogs and gets along with every dog he has met. His forever home would need someone who likes going for walks as he wants them often. He loves the outdoors. He isn't shy or scared of anything other then the vacuum and blender. He doesn't seem to have an aggressive bone in his body. He doesn't even bark/howl to often. He's super calm and loving. He lets the kids lay with him. He doesn't care if they bug him while eating either. He has met over 15 other dogs of many sizes and breeds and gets along with all of them this far. He follows other dogs and let's them be in charge. He has seen a cat out on walks and he seemed interested in looking but didn't try to chase it or bark. We also took in an injured cat that him and Mark found on a walk. He was curious but gentle and didn't go too close to it. He just watched over it from a close range, right up until the owner came for the cat and took it away.
He doesn't like being left alone but seems to only bark or whine for a few minutes then settles in the kennel. He doesn't love being in the kennel but he tries to get outside when the door is opened so he needs to be in it. If I am in the shower he sits at the bathroom door. When I go upstairs he waits at the bottom he doesn't come up as he knows he isn't allowed. His favourite things to do are to go for walks, go to dog parks, or just going for a run.
When he's home he sleeps or walks around the house checking everything out but he just smells stuff and then moves on. He is quiet in the home and doesn't bark much at all, not even when someone is at the door. He whines a bit but only in the kennel or when you are in a room he can't go in, but just for a while. He would do best in a home where he has a backyard to run around in. Another dog to play with would be good as well, or someone who isn't gone for long hours every day. However I do feel he would adjust in almost any circumstance as long as he got enough exercise.
Copper doesn't often put things in his mouth that aren't food. He stays near the table when we eat but has never jumped up or taken food. Most of the time he knows to stay out of things. He's very well behaved inside but he does like attention. He will steal food from the kids if they have it at his level and aren't paying attention. He doesn't know any commands other then no and stay (when he listens) working on come and he is getting better. He would be a good candidate for obedience classes as he really wants to please his people. He seems house trained. No accidents yet but he's outside often so hard to fully tell what he would do if home alone all day.
He is in the crate at night and is okay with it if his bed is in there. He also is in it two or three times a day for 2-3 hours when no one is home. He doesn't love being in it and gives some resistance when being put in there. He is learning to walk on a leash but he will pull at times but is learning to stop and come when told. He will bolt out the door if left open or if he gets past you. Someone always has to hold him if the door is being opened. He will definitely need to be in a fully enclosed yard. He likes the car but he doesn't sit, he walks around however we have never had him in the care for longer than a 10 minute drive. He would probably settle on a longer drive.
Copper is a generally well behaved dog. Very kind and loving but loves being outside often and loves attention when inside. He would be a good family pet for people that can give him time and attention but a fenced yard is important. Also, he can jump lower fences so it would need to have high fences or a person willing to put in the time to train him on his boundaries. He is slowly getting better with coming back to us when called. He will need someone who is willing to put the time into training him and once he learns, he would be an amazing family pet. He would do excellent in a home with another dog.
