Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Found on the streets of Abaco, Bahamas only weeks after Hurricane Dorian, emaciated and timid, it was clear Aba was starving and a little weary of the stranger offering her food which she eagerly accepted. After asking around if she belonged to anyone, the gas station owner said she was a stray and belonged to no one. Grateful to accept a loving touch and hot dogs, it was very clear from right then and there Aba was longing for human companionship and although a little timid, eager to show her loving side with kisses and leaning on legs of gratitude.
Seeing the vet in the Bahamas, she was tested positive for heartworm, treated with the fast kill and spayed. Just a day before, she was attacked by another dog we had in the pack and it was an introduction that hadn't gone so well. Even after being attacked by another dog by way of human intro, Aba has become very trusting and loyal. She does great both on and off-leash. Coming from an island, she is taking in new territories and places with ease and gets excited to explore.
Aba's energy level and temperament is very mild and is very happy being with her "person", accepting praise and rubs and casually exploring new places. We believe Aba would do best in a patient home with time to work with her on basic training, relationship building, and socialization. While a little apprehensive meeting other dogs, she does get along great with them and can actually be very motherly. It was clear at some point she had had a set of litters.
For making it out of Dorian alive, surviving this long on her own with heartworm and the challenges of island life, Aba is a clear fighter and absolute dream of a girl. She would make an excellent companion and even therapy dog as she does great in cars and on airplanes! She mastered potty training almost immediately and quickly realized how amazing sleeping on a couch and a bed are. She is quickly turning into the trusting, loving and happy go lucky Potcake dog coming to America she deserves to be!
