PLEASE NOTE: Huck will only be adopted under these conditions: (1) to a home in Southern California only; (2) to a home where he will have human company most of every day; (3) to a home with no children under 6 and no large dogs. Prospective adopters must submit an adoption application and agree to a home visit.
The newest PAPS rescue, Huck, is a beautiful, big (13 lbs), purebred red and white Pap with a sweet nature. Huck's mom has become ill and she can no longer take care of this darling, lively boy. He is extremely loving and people-oriented. One of the best things about Huck is that, although he craves your attention, he is perfectly happy entertaining himself with a toy or a chew so long as he knows you are around. He is also crate and playpen trained and is content if he's confined when you are not around. Note, however, that he would not be happy left alone all day if his adopter(s) worked traditional hours.
Despite his adult-looking size and beauty, Huckleberry is still a puppy. He will be a year old Sept 8. He hasn't had any formal training but will sit for a treat, will go into his playpen when asked, walks pretty well on a leash, rides great in a car, and *usually* comes when he's called. He needs to attend a puppy obedience class to cement the standard commands.
Huck led a pretty sequestered young life and thus he is somewhat timid in new situations. So, while he wasn't too happy during his vet exam, he bounced back immediately to playing with his fellow rescued puppy on the floor in the examination room. He is extremely sociable with strangers and needs to continue his socialization to extend to strange surroundings, too.
He is good with other dogs but would prefer one BFF to a "pack of pals". He and his 15-week-old rescue buddy play constantly. Huck is also wonderful with cats. He is calm and gentle with the resident cat in his foster home and loves to clean her ears.
If you are interested in adopting this puppy, please email us at Paprescue@aol.com to request an adoption application. Huck's adoption fee is $250. His adopter must agree to take him to puppy obedience classes. Please do not apply if you do not meet his needs. Thank you.
