Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ben came to Rescue from a shelter. He was most recently living in a barn with cows on a Dairy Farm, and he really smelled like it! We have a call in to the most recent owners to get some more background on him. I've talked to the Vet who has had contact with him. The Vet and the Vet's wife have both said he is a sweetheart and this certainly seems to be the case. He has a valid Rabies vaccination. The Vet has told us that the farmers had several children. We know he seems to have been fine with all manner of livestock as well as the children. He seems to have been neutered. His former owners have not returned any of our repeated phone calls, so we have given up trying to contact them.
From what the former owners told the shelter, he was obtained from a friend. We are trying to find out his former living conditions. He is one substantial big boy! He was tentative about going in the crate at first but has learned quickly. He has been wonderful with all the female dogs here and seems to not have any problem with the males although I do not put males together to run outside. He has not been very good about eating much but he LOVES Cooper Sharp cheese! We expect his eating will pick up as he becomes more comfortable. He likes to be groomed and adores attention. He also just LOVES coming into the house. He's been very quiet here. Does not seem to bark at just anything. Seems quite contemplative and decides if things are a real threat prior to barking at them. He has tried very, very hard to be a good boy and do what is expected of him and has been extremely cooperative with all that has been asked of him so far.
Ben has been to the Vet and weighs in at 120 lbs. He is Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrliccia, and Anaplasmosis negative. He is up to date on vaccinations. Ben does not like being crated. He sleeps in the bedroom with me at night. He cannot be left uncrated when left alone however. He must have a secure place outside where he can be left when his owner is away. He has a real need to watch over his beloved family be it human or animal. An ideal situation for Ben would be a family farm with a barn for shelter, some animals to watch over and maybe he could be allowed in the house one in a while to be sure all is safe in there as well.
While we love and care for all the dogs that come to us in Rescue, sometimes there are dogs that are a little extra special. Ben is one of these dogs.
