Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lewis is an approximately 2 year old neutered male Cattle Dog that has been vaccinated, microchipped and is heart worm negative. Lewis is a sweet boy and is very submissive with new human friends. He wants to say hello to people and smooshes his face into a happy little grin and shimmies up for petting. He does submissive urinate when he is first meeting someone, so we suggest he greets people outside. We will send him with a couple of "boy belts" until he builds up his confidence if he has not gotten better while in our care. Often, stopping the behavior is just a matter or boosting a dog's confidence and making them feel secure with their bond with their owner. You can do this through obedience classes, teaching the dogs tricks and agility for fun!
Lewis is quiet in his crate and goes in for a cookie. We wouldn't necessarily say he wants to go in there and needs a little coaxing, but he is good once he gets in. Lewis should not be trusted loose in the house without supervision because he has a propensity to chew fluffy dog beds. Take it from us, we know from experience. He is working on his leash manners and we have ordered a front clipping harness that will go with him into his new home. We have been working on walking on the leash and he is getting better.
Lewis has dog friends and usually gets along with social dogs his same size or larger. He does not like to share his chew bones or toys with other dogs, and will growl or snap if they try and take it away from him. We have never seen him do this with people and he has gotten better with the dogs while in our care.
He has learned how to use a doggy door and is housebroken with general supervision. He will mark over areas that other dogs have marked, so he needs to be watched in the beginning. He was not neutered for the first month in his foster home and we have seen a difference in the week and a half since he was neutered.
Lewis does not live with kids in his foster home so we do not know how he will be, but he has met a couple of kids and he is social and interactive with them and seems to enjoy their company.
This dog is super smart and learns quickly, so we know he will be a great dog with some training! He has learned to sit for petting, he is working on not jumping up to greet the people he adores, he is working on walking on the leash, waiting at doors, and going into the crate when asked. We also understand that you may need a little bit of a help, so we are offering 3 training sessions with Becca Hintz from Wintegrity K9 to get you through any rough spots.
Lewis has some of the typical Cattle Dog personality characteristics. We don't think he will tolerate another dog being overly pushy with him, we think he will be too much for a home with cats or small animals, and he has BOUNDLESS amounts of energy. Expect to get your daily run in, rain or shine, with this dog!
Lewis' adoption fee is $200. He is neutered, chipped, vaccinated, heart worm tested, dewormed, and comes with 3 training sessions with Integrity K9 in the Vacaville/Dixon area.
