My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Baloo is a Domestic Short Hair (DSH), male, DOB: 8/22/19.

Sweet and adorable as well as captivating with that wide-eyed innocence so completely obvious, Baloo came to our shelter from his foster home shortly after being weaned from mom, Jasmine. Slender and sleek, this delightfully charming young cat is a friendly, social, and pretty confident guy who also happens to be really good-natured and easy-to-please. An affectionate and endearing young cuddle-bug, he’ll be looking for opportunities to give and receive loving-attention, and he enjoys some occasional cuddling in the arms of those he knows and trusts. And you guessed it, he readily welcomes snuggles with his purr motor getting pretty revved-up when getting pets or invited onto the laps of his people. He’ll show his appreciation by giving the sweetest, kitty nose touches (kisses) along with gentle kneading – but only after some interactive playtime and independent exploring.

More looking to operate in his comfort zone than having reservations and not shy in-the-least, Baloo is a confident, playful, pretty active, and entirely earnest young feline who is just darn happy to be in the company of people and other cats and kittens. A gentle feline with a sensitive soul, he, like his siblings, is a total people-cat. We expect Baloo to mature into a fairly large cat – a robustly built, extremely handsome black panther with keenly animated expression, notably set-off with those expressively warm and radiant amber eyes, and all the while continuing to be an avid hunter of toy mice and dust bunnies.

Baloo and siblings Mushu, Dory, Fidget, and Mulan, were all born in one of our foster homes to young, inexperienced mom, Jasmine who came to us pregnant from Monroe County Animal Control. All fragile and small at birth, they thrived under the joint care of their feline mom and foster mom early on and continue to do so at our shelter. Baloo and all feline family members have been pretty healthy on our watch thus far too, receiving preventative treatments for fleas, worms, and other intestinal parasites as well as URI’s.

Healthy, happy, extremely affectionate and friendly, Baloo is looking for a forever family who can give him the time and attention a maturing young cat needs to stay social and confident throughout his life. We recommend a paired-adoption with one of his littermates, although a pairing with several of our other kittens having compatible personalities and temperament might also be a good fit too.

Baloo is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a calm, low-active lifestyle and no active young children under the age of six (6). He is comfortable with other compatible cats and kittens, and he’s comfortable in the presence of well-mannered, cat-friendly dogs, but he will need some adjustment time to warm-up and settle into his new surroundings. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable animals, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Baloo currently resides at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store. You can meet him Tuesday – Thursday, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm; Friday and Saturday, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm; or by appointment; closed Sunday, Monday, and National Holidays. To start the adoption process for Baloo, complete and submit Monroe SPCA’s adoption application linked above.

All Monroe SPCA cats available for adoption have an adoption fee of $85.00. This fee includes the cat being spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed, tested for FeLV and FIV, and microchipped with lifelong registration prior to adoption.

Completed applications can be emailed to info@monroespca.org or dropped off at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store located at 293 W. Monroe Street, Dundee, MI.
