My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there! My name is Huxley and I am a laid back little snuggler who is looking for a home to call my own. I have a very frosty face but I am only about 10 years young. My foster mom says the frost comes from my experiences on my own.

Speaking of experiences, I don't have much history to share with you. I was picked up as a stray by Barrow County Animal Control. Let me tell, that pick-up probably saved my life. I was cold and sick and tired of being on my own. When the folks at DREAM saw my sad little face they couldn't turn their backs on me.

Huxley was diagnosed with some kidney disfunction and with the proper diet they assure me I will live to sniff around the yard and lay in your lap. Despite my special supplements and yummy food, I'm a pretty good catch, If I do say so myself. Let me get one thing straight. I LOVE to snuggle. I like to curl up with my foster mom and dad and snooze while they read and watch TV. If you aren't here for a lap dog...keep on scrolling! But don't get me wrong, snuggling isn't ALL I like to do. I also enjoy playing with toys, I like to tug with my foster sister and explore the back yard.

Did I tell you my foster mom says that she has never had a foster with better manners than me?! (Apparently, she's had a lot of dogs come through her door.) I am totally housebroken, but I do have to go outside every few hours cause of my kidneys. I am crate trained, I only bark for a couple of minutes then I settle in for a snooze. Sometimes I have little accidents in the crate when my foster mom is at work. There are two dogs and two cats in my foster home. I get along well with all of them. Oh yea...I almost forgot to tell you. I do have one bad habit. I'm a beggar. You don't get to be 18lbs without a little work, right? When you eat, I will beg. I will bark at you. I know this isn't a good habit and my foster mom is helping me with it. Will you help me break this habit?

So...I think that's about it. I'm a pretty swell little guy who would love to have his own home for the holidays. Are you my forever?

If you are interested in adopting Huxley, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to dreamhappytails.org/adoptform2.shtml . Huxley 's adoption fee is $300 All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Huxley will go to his/her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, and up to date on vaccinations. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
