My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My Name is Dixie, I am a 6 years old Jack Russel Terrier Mix.I have a foster dog sister and cat sister. We have lots of fun running around the house and playing. Sometimes my foster mom’s grandchildren are over, they love to pet me and give love, sometimes Ilick them. One of my favorite things to do is to fetch a ball, I can play for a long time if you will just toss the ball, I’ll go get it for you, and I'm happy to do that for as long as you want, until it's time for a nap.I have been well trained on my manners, no accidents in the house, I sleep at night in my kennel, sometimes when my foster parents are gone during the day, they let me stay in my cozy kennel. It’s safe in there. If told to “go lay down”, I get in my bed, I am a good eater, my tail wags a lot when we are playing or when I hear that special tone in your voice that I know you are talking to me, you know that voice. I love to hear that special doggie voice.

If you want to nap, I love cuddling on the couch or on the recliner. If someone comes to the door, I will letyou know and they will think you have a great “Watch Dog”, they just don’t know I’m really the welcoming committee. Sometimes I do shy away to new people but I warm up very quickly. My bark is loud, but my bite; well I do like treats, is that what you are talking about? Overall, I love being a dog, why not—I’m really good at it.FAVORITE HOBBIES—Snuggling, fetching toys, going for walks [got to keep my “schoolgirl figure”], belly rubs and loving on you.

All of our pets start their journey in Memphis Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted.

Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you submit an application immediately to start the adoption process. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, ALIVE Rescue Memphis is operated 100% by volunteers. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding.

Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff.
