My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mali is a 5-year-old neutered female black lab. Mali weighs 43 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

MOST RECENT UPDATE:Mali needs some time to get her zoomies out every day. She loves to run and she's super fast. She loves playing with other dogs that like to run and either chase or be chased. She's slow to warm up to people, but is super affectionate when she does. Mali ideally needs a fenced yard to do her business. She will go on leash, but it takes about 20 minutes. She would do best with a quieter household, in a suburban/rural area, with a dog similar in size and energy, or daily trips to a dog park. She prefers her crate open during the day because she is very comfortable in her crate and likes to rest in it.

UPDATE:Mali continues to adapt to the house life and living with the family dog. She even greets "that man" with wiggles for a little petting.

UPDATE: Mali is doing well. She walks well on leash, has mastered sit and is learning down. Mali is a happy dog by nature, she loves to play with the resident dog, either chasing or being chased. She loves chew toys. She's no longer hides under foster's desk now that she's discovered an office chair. She loves to be with people and loves affection. Mali would thrive in a home that understands she's new to lots of noises and that fast movements can startle her. When she's afraid, she goes to her crate and lays down with crate door left open. She will need a safe place, such as a crate, in her new home while she adjusts to a new routine and people.

UPDTE: Mali was a stray to the shelter and has adjusted quickly to living indoors and many household sounds, like the TV and vacuum cleaner. Some unexpected or loud noises still startle her, but she's making progress daily. She is crate and housetrained, knows the command sit, and loves walking with her EZ walk harness on. Mali sleeps through the night on a dog bed and loves to snuggle on the couch. She loves chew toys, running in the back yard, and the dog park. Mali rids beautifully in the car. Mali needs to be in a home that understands how to rebuild a dog's faith and trust in humans again. She has come a very long way and needs to continue on this path. She's very smart, gentle, and sweet.

UPDATE: Mali continues to enjoy life indoors. She finally had a much needed bath and she was great. She's learning how to sit. She absolutely loves the dog park, plays/runs with dogs closer to her size. She runs super fast and it's fun just to watch her go full speed.

UPDATE: Mali is really coming out of her shell. She had a great outing to the dog park and zoomed around with the other dogs, both as the chaser and the chasee. She is getting used to lots of new noises and learning about toys. She still startles easily but is learning that noises don't have to be scary. She snuggles on the sofa with her 12 year old human sister and is gaining confidence everyday. She is dreaming of a patient family to slowly introduce her to new things.

UPDATE: Mali is very sweet, tail wagging, comes over for petting. She slept quietly through the night in FM's bedroom on a rug. She's energetic and has an adorable frosted, highlighted butt and a white patch on her throat. She's house trained and went in the crate on her own to eat. She greets everyone and rides well in the car. Mali will need to be kept on leash even in a fenced-in yard as she is still adjusting to different environments. She loves walking in country fields and does best with a harness as she is very strong. Mali is from a rural area and hasn't been exposed to a lot of things so she would do best with someone willing to introduce her to new things slowly and calmly. She's very bright and likes chicken jerky treats which should help her to settle very quickly.

DESCRIPTION: Mali is a happy girl who enjoys her people especially if being petted. Mali would like a family that will provide the petting and love she deserves.
