Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is Max. He is our 7 year old male Pomeranian mix. We are thinking he may have some Pekingese in him because he does have an under-bite and some other Peke features, but don't know for sure. ***He needs an experienced owner! If you don't have experience with stubborn or challenging dogs, please don't apply.***
He is a really sweet boy but does get nervous with some people he doesn't know. Sometimes he's just fine with anyone he meets. He does seem to prefer women but does really like his foster dad. We don't think he would be a good match for anyone that has small kids!
He's recently been parted with the owner he's had his whole life, so he's been confused about what's going on. He has experienced some anxiety because of this. When he gets really stressed and upset, he has nipped his fosters. He has not full on bitten them, just a small nip. It seems to only happen when he's really overwhelmed or something is going on that he really does not like. Being a small dog, he probably feels he has no choice but to do this to protect himself.
The last week and a half, he has really calmed and his fosters have had no problems with him nipping or being anxious. He's not very good with cats, so we wouldn't recommend placing him in a home with cats. He is treat and food possessive and can get aggressive if 1 of the kitties in his foster home get near him. Anything that he thinks belongs to him, he will protect. He even guards his foster mom. He has never hurt the cats. He does bark and chase them, but it's best to not tempt fate.
He loves being outside in the backyard and going for walks! He walks great on a leash. He is doing really well on his housetraining! He still gets a little jealous of the cats and will mark something that belongs to them, but he really enjoys going outside now to go potty!
He doesn't mind being in his crate. His foster mom is working on teaching him to go in the crate on command. He can be quiet stubborn, so that is going slow. She can pick him up and place him inside, so that's not really a problem. He doesn't seem to like any toys at this point. He does really like bully sticks and LOVES duck jerky. He also likes Greenies treats. He is a very picky eater. His previous owner fed him junk food, so he's not use to a nutritious diet. We are trying everything to encourage him to eat, even getting advice from our vets.
If you feel that you can give Max the patience and love he needs, please email littlepawsbigheartspekerescue@yahoo.com for an adoption application
