My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tom came from a home where he was well loved and well on his way to becoming a confident and well rounded family member.  Unfortunately the older dog in the home, a Chihuahua just couldn't handle Tom's playfulness which caused both dogs to be unhappy in the situation.  Tom loves everyone and is an intelligent, fun, happy and good looking boy.  He is still a puppy with much training under his best but still a few things left to perfect, but overall a great family pet.

Here is what Tom's foster family had to say about him:
Tom is one of the happiest dogs I have ever met!  He is a bundle of energy, and LOVES to play.  He is in good health.  I would say his energy at the moment is high but he of course still has that puppy energy and will settle as he gets a bit older.  As well, being a puppy still he doesn't shed much at this point.

Tom loves other dogs and anyone and everyone.  We have tried him with an 8 year old child and they loved each other.  He is not shy with anyone and we haven't seen any aggression whatsoever.  We were told there were some issues around food with a small Chihuahua in his previous home but we have not experienced any of this while he has been in our care.  Just ensure you are there to monitor the situation at first if you have another dog and/or feed them separately.  Tom is excited to see every dog.  Just wants to play.  I would place him with a dog his size or bigger.   He just wants to play with cats but he can be too rough as he doesn't understand the size thing yet - so either dog-savvy cats or no cats would be best.

Tom has settled easily into the routines at the daycare centre.   He is a pretty easy going boy and we haven't seen any issues with him accepting whatever we want him to do.  His favourite things to do are to play and eat and recently he has begun to want snuggles from us.  He is a puppy, he has ample amounts of energy.  He will need a home that has the time to train him further, and realize he is still a puppy.  Here he has his dog friends to get his energy out, but in a family home he will need an outlet.  Tom settles well in a crate when we leave.  He is house trained and has not had any accidents while in our care.

Toms needs someone who has the time and patience to have a puppy.  Another dog would be great for him, of course, if they got along. A big yard to run around in as well.  Just really want people to be aware, he is a high energy puppy.  He will need structure and TONS of exercise.  But my gosh he's going to be a good boy!

Some further info from his previous owner:
Tom loves mental and physical stimulation and if not walked sufficiently, he becomes bored.  As long as there are chew toys he can play with versus shoes or other items, he is golden.  He is incredibly smart and learns very quickly.  He needs lots of positive reinforcement and positive stimulation.  He has mastered sit, stay, shake a paw, down, and wait.  Tom is very good at the “Touch” Command, which just requires your hand flat and out at any height. Once you say “Touch” he will press his noise to your hand. If your hand is high he will jump and touch.  Based on Toms intelligence it is recommended he continues to learn new tricks as mental simulation has proven to help tire him out and keep him happy.  If left alone and needing a distraction - Tom loves a hard cheese stick (available at Pet Smart) to chew as a reward / down time.  In the scenario Tom is mis-behaving, a squirt water bottle seems to intimidate him so just holding it up will likely make him stop what he is doing (ex. Finding him enjoying a nice shoe).

Tom walks well on a leash, but can get very excited with other dogs that come within close proximity. Ensuring the leash is short & by your side allows him to walk with you vs. in front of you. This
is recommended for training purposes as he is still learning.  A gentle tug when you reach a cross-walk means sit and 7/10 times Tom will sit. He is still learning and bringing treats on walks to reward this behaviour is recommended.  He loves frozen green beans and carrots and sits like a human. Tom does well in social settings and enjoys a comfy sweater or jersey.  Tom has gotten very good at catching balls in the air, and has not yet played frisbee – but this is highly recommended to test out.

Tom is slightly afraid of getting into cars, but once inside he will relax.  He has a lot of experience on public transit and go train and does very well.  Tom is incredibly gentle, loves kisses and bed cuddles.  Tom has recently shown interest in swimming – so introduction to water is recommended when the weather permits.
