My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
My name is Rosa! I’m as pretty as the prettiest flower!

How old are you?
My foster mom says I act like a toddler, so it makes sense that we’re guessing I’m around 2 years old. (Less crying, you don’t have to watch FROZEN, and no diaper changes, so, I say I’m BETTER than a toddler.)

What do you look like?
I’m such a pretty girl! I’m about medium size for a pit bull (~45 pounds) with pretty red fur. If the light hits me right, you can tell some of my fur is light red and some is a darker red. I have a white chest and white markings on my tippie toes. It’s basically a French manicure because I’m a diva. I have dark and expressive amber eyes.

What do you like to eat?
When I first came to my foster home, I was a little finicky with food. However, now that I’m settled in, I LOVE IT! I’ll take treats of any kind, but my foster mom mostly gives me treats with pumpkin and blueberry as their main ingredient. My food is a mixture of proteins (beef and fish); we’ve stayed away from chicken because some dogs like me are prone to pesky poultry allergies.

What kind of personality do you have?
I’m super lovable and LOVE people. I want a family that is fine with me being stuck to them like glue. That family should also help teach me boundaries and independence, but what can I say, I just want to be with my human getting pets all the time! I also love to play and have a favorite green ball that I’m pretty attached to. Even if my foster mom tries to hide it, I’ll sniff it out and try to get it back. My foster parents call me a “puddle” because when they pet me, I sometimes just puddle down on the floor and become a mush of appreciation at their feet. I love their attention so much that I can sometimes be pushy for it (getting all over them and nudging/licking their hands.)

Describe your perfect day
The perfect day for a gal like me would include people time! I’m happiest with humans, but also like spending time with other dogs too! My perfect day may include some play time with another dog, but I’d also be fine getting lovins from a human and chilling with a bone in the living room.

What is your favorite toy?
You know that green ball I mentioned before? I FRICKIN LOVE THAT THING! My mom tried to introduce a ball that makes weird sounds to me and I just walked away thinking “What a weirdo..”. I like to chase Frisbees, but I haven’t mastered the whole “return” thing with them yet.

Do you know any tricks?
I know sit! My foster mom doesn’t let me lounge on the bed with my green ball because she says it’s “gross” (ugh..whatever, mom.), so I’ve learned “off” too!

What scares you?
I don’t love loud noises when I’m in the backyard. If I hear a loud noise and I’m outside, I might bark. My foster mom can tell me to stop and bring me inside and then I’m just fine. I just need to let out a couple of woofs so that scary things will beware of my ferociousness. (I actually have zero percent ferociousness, but they don’t need to know that.)

Do you like cats?
Ehhhhhhhhh. Not sure. I’m pretty alert toward other small fluffy things, like squirrels, so my foster parents think I’d be too much for a cat.

Do you have any doggie best friends?
Yeah! I live with a female pit bull and a male pit/bulldog mix. The female pit bull just ignores me; we’re very much like a big sis-pesky lil sis duo. The male pit/bulldog is my BFFEAEAEAEAEA. I LOVE HIM A MILLIONS. He and I play all the time. Sometimes my foster parents have to tell us to knock it off because we have too much fun. One time, we we’re playing so hard that I leapt in the air and crashed into a wall, cracking the dry wall and paint. (Whoops. Sorry, foster parents..can’t help fix that..no opposable thumbs here.)

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Curled up next to my family getting pets. My favorite place to be is right next to a human.

How is your health?
I’m just dandy! I have had bouts of urinary tract infections (UTIs), but I’m doing well! I have to watch my figure because, well, it’s just too easy to pack on the pounds! My foster parents help by being very consistent with my meal portions.

How long have you lived in your foster home?
I’ve been with my foster family since mid-September, 2019.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home in St. Louis City with my foster mom, foster dad, and two doggy siblings. I love everyone! Don’t make me play favorites and pick a closest companion; we’re all tight!

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
I get crated in my foster home’s guest room when my foster parents aren’t home. Of course, I’d rather they stay home with me and give me attention, but I understand they’ve gotta go work!

Where do you sleep?
I also sleep in my crate in the guest room. Some nights I whine for a minute or two, but I settle and am quiet throughout the whole night until it is time to get up in the morning.

What do you love about your foster family?
Well, I love that they give me a home, of course! I also love that they are teaching me boundaries and structure. If left to my own devices, I might be pesky because I love people so much! I promise I would love you too!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
I was in a shelter in East St. Louis before I became part of Even Chance. Some Even Chance team members saw how beautiful and sweet I was and took me in! I was placed in a foster home for several months that intended to adopt me, but ultimately, their lifestyle meant they couldn’t give me enough attention. I moved to my new foster home in September of 2019.

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they spend time in our homes. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for you and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
