Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Rickey is a 6 1/2 year old male, who has been relinquished by his owner. He shows fear of men and is a resource guarder and therefore, not likely a good match to be with other dogs, cats or young children. He has made great strides since coming to us. Here is a follow-up from our boarding facility.
Overall, Rickey is turning out to be a nice dog. He is not a cuddle dog, but is starting to enjoy the pets and rubs that I have been doing. He is slowly starting to wag his tail when I talk to him. He likes the attention and human interaction.
If he leaves a treat...don't pick it up unless he isn't around. He is very gentle when taking treats out of your hand. I give him soft treats because he eats them all. If you give him hard treats, they crumble and then he has chunks of them in his kennel and will resource guard. When you put his food bowl down, immediately pull your hand away. If he doesn't get set up for failure, he should just keep coming out of the way he came in.
If you have it in your heart to give this guy, with a few issues, a forever home, he will be forever thankful.
FOSTER UPDATE:
My name is Rickey, I'm six years old, and I'm kind of a big deal. I ran my last race in Tucson on June 25, 2016. That was the final day of racing in Tuscon. I ran 146 times before that day.
Here's my story.
After I finished racing, I went to live with one of the folks that worked at the track. I lived there for three years before the people realized that they couldn't take care of me anymore. When I came to the SA Greys family, I was a little on the chubby side, but I'm slimming down every day. I'm also getting more confident. I was even at the Roo Union, did you see me?
Rickey is doing well with small dogs now at meet and greets.
