Emile's story is a sad one......he was a beloved companion for many years to an elderly man but when his person went into a nursing home, the family left Emile at the shelter . ( We don't even know his real name ( yet) but Emile seemed to fit this elegant but emaciated dog. )
In addition to being a bit raggedly and underweight , we also learned he is heartworm positive and cryptorchid ( an undescended testicle , requiring a more extended neuter surgery )
Many shelters do not have the funding to treat heartworm cases and have to euthanize dogs if not rescued or adopted.
We are grateful that a foster stepped up for him, knowing his stay might be a bit longer than many fosters .
Emile's vetting will be expensive but we could not say no and let his this loving senior end his days in a shelter.
Emile arrived today and he has been fabulous with the resident dog as well as the resident cat......he may be 8 but he has plenty of energy and has no issues with stairs !
His vetting will be approximately $1500-$1750 for his heartworm treatment and we will be posting a separate plea for sponsors /donations for his care.
Despite his poor shape and medical issues, he is a loving gentle boy and we are so happy we could say " yes".
Updates as we have them .
A big thank you to Jane G for her donation to Emile’s medical expenses !
