Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tink is a super cute, super sweet 8-year-old Pekingese who was surrendered to a local animal control officer after his owner vanished and left him behind. But that's not getting this little guy down. He is a happy, loyal, loving little guy who is ready to find a forever family (by the second day in his foster home, Tink adopted the resident humans as his new best friends, and follows them everywhere).
Tink is great with the other dogs in his foster home (one large and a couple small doggy pals); he is untested with cats, but his foster mom thinks he'd do fine with them. We are not aware of any experience with small children, so would look for children in a forever home to be 8 years plus.
Tink is a real sweetheart who loves walks, car rides, sitting in your lap, running errands, toys, and treats! He is house trained and crate trained. He never learned any basic commands, but is eager to please and ready to learn, especially if treats are involved.
Despite his recent past, Tink is a friendly and relaxed dog, but can become alarmed when he is picked up without warning (he just needs a little warning that he's going to be picked up and loved/cuddled, which he enjoys).
Tink is 15 pounds (14.6 to be exact, but the vet thinks he could gain a tiny bit of weight), neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations. Tink was in rough shape when he arrived at animal control so had to be shaved. He had itchy skin after he was shaved, which was likely the result of fleas in his previous home but is now taking an anti-itch medicine and is feeling so much better (in some of his pictures he is wearing a shirt to keep him from scratching, but the meds have helped so much that he doesn't have to wear it anymore). He tested positive for Lyme Disease but is on meds to treat that. He is otherwise, healthy, happy, and ready to start the next chapter in his life!
If you are interested in adopting Tink, who is in a foster home in the Lowell area, please complete an adoption application on our website at www.baystatedogs.com/adopt (you can do the online form or the Word document - whichever is easier for you). The adoption process includes an application, vet reference (if applicable), phone interview, home visit, adoption contract, and adoption fee, which for Tink is $250.
