#TheFallFive, now #TheFallThree, available for adoption through Fur the Love of PAWS Rescue! ❤️
I have said it before, but animals are so much like people. Every single person is unique. There is no one person that is just like another. That's why it is so important to spend some time to get to know each cat before you start to look for the perfect forever home for them. What might work for one cat, is not going to work for the next. What works the one person in life, isn't going to work for the next person.
Each being is unique in personality, likes, dislikes, temperament and so on. Each of our amazing Fall Five are that way - all different in many ways, but connected by a common bond of homelessness and faced with the possibility of living lives without knowing human love, contact or safety. They were faced with the possibility of neglect, injury, illness and ultimately an early death, as they were born strays on the street. With no one to help them, no one to show them love and no one to show them compassion.
That was, until I laid eyes on them as a terrified bundle in the city shelter. They'd never been indoors, never been around humans and never been shown any kindness or love. It was foreign. That was, until I laid eyes on them at the city shelter.....
I knew it was a long shot and would be a lot of work to socialize these five feral Kitties. They seemed to be litter mates and I think they are, however they do vary significantly in size.
However, they were brought in together and I do believe they are siblings.
I decided to take a leap of faith and pull these kittens for rescue and see what we could do the get them transformed into a social state. A kittens prime socialization period is 5-7 weeks. This period is what will determine how they react long term to just about anything. It is at this time that they need to be held and cuddled, introduced to anything and everything possible, including tons of people. This will create a social and confident kitten. Once this window is missed, it is hard to instill that confidence or self assurance in a cat. That period is so very important. Cats can be tamed after that period, but once they hit about 3-4 months old, it can be pretty difficult to get through to them as they just are now instilled nearly permanently with that lack of positive social interactions. It's even more difficult to socialize them when they are in a Colony of other non tame kittens.... Like these were.
These guys were about 14-16 weeks old. It's kind of hard to say based on the different sizes but they were almost at the 4 month mark. I knew what we were hoping to do would be tough but I couldn't settle with them as farm cats. They had a small glimmer of hope and God led me to help them, so here we are :D
Now, first stop was for vetting, of course. These never been handled kittens were terrified of humans. They did not want anything to do with the vet staff and gave them hell. I want to say a huge thank you to Tender Hearts Veterinary Center for squeezing all five of them in for us and taking on the difficilt task of drawing blood from five, pulling fecals from five, vaccinating five, micro chipping five, droncit injecting five, spaying and neutering five and examining five NON TAME, ANGRY, SCARED kittens for us. That's no easy task and we so so so appreciate it. (I would also like to thank Peggy C for sponsoring their spay and neuters in Memory of her beloved cats, Mister and Jasmine ❤️ and a huge thank you to everyone who donated for their care. It was a huge expense and took a huge weight off our shoulders!)
After all was said and done, the kittens were full of worms but tested negative for FIV/FeLV (a huge risk pulling five at once that could have potentially been positive!) and got all fixed up. They stayed at the vet in kennels for a couple days to rest and heal. I knew once we got them to FUR, they'd be popcorn kernals and bounce all around - not good for post alters.
Whew. Now these five non tame kittens had been rescued, vetted and arrived at the FURcility. Now the real fun began.
While I want to sit and elaborate on all the amazing milestones these kittens have hurdled over, I also want to keep this readable. I want people to understand where they came from, what they've gone through and who they've come to be... But not in a book form 😂
Here's the most important thing I want to tell you... These kittens will continue to need your help. They are doing fabulous.. They play and eat and rough house like a normal kitten. They love to be held and snuggled and purr a storm. What they don't do yet, is come to you. They also run when you put them down. This is something that will take some time, once in the home. It will be important for adopters to continue to daily handle, play and encourage their kitten(s) so they continue to trust, learn and grow and not revert back as that little voice in their head says "run" - the little voice they developed before we ever came along....
They are dolls, and are thriving. But just need to continue being pushed and shown great love. They're amazing, brave and have come so far; from a puddle of kittens to each galavanting around with toys and joy. We just love them all.
#FAMILYGOALS
The biggest thing to know when adopting is that these babies are a work in progress. They will not run around in your home and run to you their first night or week in the home. They are, as their story states, going to take time and continued reassurance of your kindness and love. They are basically very, very shy kittens who need you to show them the way.
They love to play and love to be held and walked with. They are going to transform into the most amazing, grateful, loyal adults because they know, and always will know - they were rescued.
We want the kittens to get the best homes, patient but persistent in nature. They are super special and have come so very far. It will be a continuous journey for them for awhile, and I am always here to help you through it. They are so worth it and truly incredible. It's been a wonderful experience with them and I am really excited to see them all get forever homes. ❤️
🤸♀️ All Kittens are good with kids. Kids should be more calm in nature and respectful of the kittens! Chaotic and' grabby' homes need not apply.
🐕 All Kittens will be unsure of dogs but will adjust over time.
🐈 All Kittens are good with cats and would do best in a home with another playful cat. Again, we have a 2-for-1 adoption fee if you adopt two of ours at once.
🚽 All Kittens are litter trained and use a no scented, no dust clumping litter.
#OURPERSONLITIES:
#Acorn: Most confident and first to do everything. Best pairing is a confident male or female. Loves to play and wrestle and jump and run and bounce around. Needs a social, playful friend. Loves, loves to play and loves catnip. Possible sibling pairing: Cinnamon or Cider. Loves to be held and snuggled and purrs!
#Cider: 2nd most brave and second to join the party. Best pairing is a confident male. She is a big love bug when she gets to know you. Loves to play! Loves catnip. Possible sibling pairing: Acorn or Cinnamon would be great if there was a third confident cat. She is the most snuggly and loving once held. She nestles into you and gives kisses. She has the sweetest heart!
#Cinnamon: She is the most shy. She has no confidence in herself and it's been difficult to help her find that with the others. She is in their shadow. Best pairing is a confident male or not overbearing female. Very friendly, outgoing, social cat is best for her. She really has to be continued to be pushed out of her zone. She is the smallest, the runt. Possible sibling pairing: Acorn or Cider would be great if there was a third confident cat. She is very close to Cider and follows her lead. She LOVES to be held and is a purr machine.
