Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**This dog has a brother, Buran who looks almost identical and is also similar in intelligence and temperament. We would love to adopt them out together, but understand if that is not possible. They have already been living in separate foster homes for the last 2 months and Buran will not be available for adoption until November 6th. Bora will be available October 24th.
Hello, my name is Bora! I have quite the story. I was born on the street in Ukraine and would have probably become a street dog if a volunteer had not seen me and my brothers and sisters and brought us to a safe place. In Ukraine, dog left on the street can be shot, poisoned or starve or freeze to death, so we were very lucky!
In Ukraine, all the shelters are outdoors and many are not great. Plus, there aren't really any volunteer foster homes like in the US. So the man who rescued us put us in a kind of for-profit foster home called a "perederzhka." The place was in an outdoor kennel, but there were not many dogs, so it was better than a big shelter. It was hard to live outdoors without much human contact and through the freezing winters and very hot summers, so my brother, Buran and I became very close.
The nice man who rescued us found homes for all our siblings except for my brother and I. In Ukraine, there is not only a superstition for black cats, but also for black dogs, so people were afraid to adopt me and my brother! I am not sure why they were afraid to adopt us, we are very gentle and loving and have never been aggressive.
We lived for over a year in the outdoor kennel and thought all hope was lost for us. In Ukraine there is little to no chance for dogs over a year and medium sized to get adopted. Just when I thought I would never find a forever home, an American rescue organization agreed to help us! They help promote the concept of in-the-home volunteer foster homes in Ukraine and rehabilitate dogs who have lived on the street or in outdoor shelters.
In August I was moved to a foster home and started to live in an apartment with another dog and a 3-year-old girl. I was excited about being in a home, but very scared to be away from my brother. Miraculously, just after just 5 days I was walking on a leash and cuddling with the little girl and the other dog like I had always been a house dog!
I have lived in my foster home for over 2 months now. My foster family says I am still a little scared of new things, but report that I am very loyal and have lots of love to give. They say I am ready to be adopted, so I will move to America at the end of October to find my forever family! I have never heard of America, but I trust that I will find a loving home there!
My brother is still being rehabilitated but he is a quick learner like me. He will come to the US on November 6th. If you have enough room in your home and heart, for the both of us, that would be great, but if not, we understand.
One more thing about me, since I was found on the street, my rescuers are not sure of my breed. They use an application that is pretty accurate in identifying dog breeds, but with dogs mixed with many breeds, it can be difficult. They think I look like a mix of an Australian Kelpie and a Border Collie. Australian Kelpies, are not well known in the US, but in Australia they are used to heard sheep. They think I have an intelligence and temperament of the more well known Border Collie, but my fur is short so I do not shed as much.
Also, I have never lived with a cat, so I am not sure if I would get along with one. I have never shown aggression to any person or dog in my life, so it would probably be ok.
My big journey to the US will be October 24th! I heard that last time my rescue group brought dogs to the US, most of them were adopted before they arrived. So if you are interested in adopting me, please send in an application ASAP. Thank you!!
