Special Needs:

Arrival story: Trudy was brought to Macomb County Animal Control as a stray, and after a couple of weeks, they reached out to Waggin' Tails looking for a foster for this girl.

Approximate Age / Weight: 1.5 years old and 32 lbs.

Personality: This spotted sweetie is inquisitive, playful, and looking for her human BFF! Trudy loves a long walk or hike, playing fetch, tug, hide-and-seek - or sometimes even throwing a toy around by herself. You name the game, this girl loves to play! She has great house manners, too. When she's feeling playful, she may grab a stray sock or something similar if it's the closest thing around, but she is easily redirected to one of her own toys.

Trudy is fearful of new people and dogs, and tends to be reactive when afraid. This means there's a lot of barking and acting menacing to try to get the scary thing to go away. Her fears are certainly something that can be worked through, but will require patience from her humans, and ideally some experience with fearful or reactive dogs or willingness to work with a force-free trainer or behaviorist.

Once a human has gained her trust, Trudy is very attentive and motivated by their praise and affection (and treats!). She is quickly learning basic commands, like "sit", "down", "come", and more. When Trudy's chosen human is there to have her back, she's always up for adventure. She has finished her first manners class and would love to continue her formal education and learn something new.

Trudy will enjoy life as your only dog. On occasion, Trudy will try to entice the resident cats to play or half-heartedly chase them (just in case *maybe* they wanted to play), but is generally respectful of them. The same could not be said for their food or litter box if accessible or unattended.

Forever Home: Trudy's ideal forever family will be patient with her and willing to consult a force-free professional as she continues to learn how to cope with meeting new people. Due to her high-intensity play, Trudy would do best in a home without children or with older teens. Trudy prefers being the only dog. Our active girl would not do well in an apartment/condo setting, and no electric fences, please.
