Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sophie is a yorkie mix who is 10 years old and weighs only 6 pounds. Sweet Sophie is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.
UPDATED BIO 10/31/2019: Sophie here! I wanted to let all my fans know how I am doing. I came into UYR’s Foster Care Program a month ago after I was picked up by animal control. A concerned citizen let them know that there was an itty bitty dog who was tied to a tree and abandoned by the side of the road. Yup - that was me. Animal control was told I had been there for over 30 minutes on a hot 90+ degree Florida day and no one had yet shown up to get me. I am now safe in my foster home and loving life! My Foster Mom has helped get me back in shape (I was a big mess) and I have now been given a pretty clean bill of health.
Foster Mom says I have a wonderful disposition considering what I have been through. I love my long walks, but she says that I apparently need some reinforcement in the leash-training department. When I arrived in my foster home, I wasn't given very high marks for house-training. Within a short time, I am getting an A+ - aren’t I smart (and pretty, too)? I know how to go potty outside and during our walks. Once in a while I may go on the pee-pee-pad at the back door if it is an emergency.
Foster Mom also says I am very smart and learn quickly. I come when she calls me (especially if it's meal time) and my favorite pastime is to snuggle on the sofa with her and sit on her lap when she is at the computer. I like to follow her wherever she goes – and I will do that with my new adoptive family as well.
I get along with cats and other small dogs, but sometimes really big dogs scare me and I bark at them, so I would be happiest if I was in a home with only small dogs. Foster Mom tells me how happy she is that I sleep-in and don't wake her up too early! I am a very good sleeper and a good eater, considering I only have about 5 teeth. I like to ride in the car and the golf cart, too.
Foster Mom also says I am discovering my "inner dog" - whatever that means. I think it may mean that now I know I am safe and loved, I have learned to play with other dogs and it’s a lot of fun, so a home with another little doggie like me who likes to play would be pawsome. I have a lot of energy for my age, but I still enjoy my relaxation time. I have found my voice and I will bark if I hear someone at the door. I am told I am a "good little watchdog". I guess I am happy as long as I am with my person and I will make someone a wonderful companion. Could that someone be you?
Note from Foster Mom: Sophie’s medical expenses to get her healthy and have a much-needed dental are very high, so if you have been moved by this sweet girl’s background and struggles, please consider a donation to UYR.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to Sophie’s tiny size, she cannot be adopted into a home with children under the age of 14 years old.
UPDATED BIO 10/02/2019: Sophie here! My Foster Mom has helped get me back in shape. Since I arrived here about a week ago, I have been to the vet for a check-up, had several nice medicated baths, visited the groomer and finally spent another day at the vet getting my dental done. I’ve been a busy little girlie! I ended up losing most of my teeth, but I am feeling so, so much better! It is helping to clear up my skin infection, my eyes are looking a whole lot better and my Foster Mom says I no longer have that icky breath and she seems pretty happy about that! Don’t worry – losing my teeth doesn't stop me from eating!
I love my long walks and now that I am feeling safe, I also love to snuggle on the sofa with my Foster Mom. She tells me how happy she is that I sleep-in and don't wake her up too early! I am a very good sleeper. I am pretty quiet, very mellow and I think I barked once, but only because the other dog living in the house did it first. I like to ride in the car and the golf cart. Yup, I am not only pretty, but pretty easy- going according to my Foster Mom. She is still working with me on my house-training - sometimes I go potty outside and other times, I go on the pee-pee pad in the house.
Foster Mom always tells me that I am a quiet, sweet and gentle little girl and will make someone a wonderful companion. Could that someone be you?
