My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

On 9/14/19, two ARF members went to a home to bring in six puppies to JCAS.  The owner had planned to give them away, and both ARF and the shelter wanted to be sure they were placed in good homes.  While there, the members saw a very sweet female dog named Sis, born January 22, 2017, who was obviously pregnant.  The owner agreed that he would surrender her, too, so on 9/16/19 she was picked up and taken to a boarding facility that ARF uses.  Luckily, one of the clinics ARF uses had a cancellation in the afternoon, so the ARF member took her to have a vet check and an ultrasound to determine how far along Sis might be with her pregnancy.  The verdict was that she had one to two weeks before she would deliver.  She was given a drontal, for she had whip and hook worms, and the vet recommended another drontal be given as a follow-up. She also was given Bravecto at that time. Sis had not ridden in a car, but she rode well.  She had never had on a collar or been led with a leash, but she was cooperative, even if a little nervous.  (Her usual routine was to sleep in the home -- and in the bed -- but spend the day roaming around the rural property.  So to be with new people, to be taken to new places, and to leave the only home she had ever known behind was a little unnerving for her.)  However, Sis is one of the sweetest dogs ever!  She is meek and friendly.  She has a great personality and is very accepting!  She likes people, other dogs, and cats.  She wants contact with people and to be petted and rubbed and loved!  Looking in those big, brown eyes begging for affection is heartwarming.  On 9/19/19 Sis went into labor, sooner than we had hoped.  She was brought from boarding to Jackson County Animal Shelter.  This may well have been her first babies, for she didn't seem to know what was happening to her.  She was in labor for quite some time before the first puppy, unfortunately, was stillborn.  She later gave birth to two female puppies, one black with tan and some white toes and the last a little black and white puppy.  Sis was at first rough with the babies, and she seemed to be trying to hide them.  She calmed down when left alone with her little ones and stopped picking them up and covering them up.  Hopefully, Sis and her babies will find homes when they are ready with people who will love them and patiently teach them all they need to know to lead happy and healthy lives.
