Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet MELON, a handsome blue merle velcro Aussie. He is 8 years young, weighs 53 lbs. and loves to be with his humans. Once you look in his ghost eyes you’ll fall in love. Melon would be best as the only dog or with a non-velcro female packmate. No male dogs. Melon loves to go on walks, guards the back yard from intruders, assists with kitchen chores and participates with any household activities. He will counter surf so he must be crated when unsupervised for his own safety.
He is neutered, current on vaccinations, house & crate trained, walks good on a leash, knows sit, down, stay, shake and is very smart and food motivated. Melon gets very excited by small game such as rabbits, squirrels and unfortunately cats, and may pull on the leash. His forever parents should be steady on their feet with no small children
HISTORY: Melon had a family once, but when he was picked up as a stray by animal control, nobody claimed him. He was adopted and returned twice for being misunderstood as a typical herding breed. Shelter employees loved him and contacted ASF to save him from euthanasia. ASF stepped in and provided Melon with proper nutrition, much needed medical care and a nurturing foster home. He had several treatable medical conditions which have been successfully resolved. He is healthy and looking for his furever home.
His ideal adopter should be a herding breed savvy pack leader with strong leadership skills as Melon wouldn’t hesitate to take over as pack leader. He’ll also need proper high protein nutrition and daily exercise. He is NOT food aggressive, but is nosey, so he should eat in his crate to avoid confrontations. He also needs to continue his training regarding human food. We noticed that food containing grains and bread (which he craves) upset his tummy. Melon use to be someone’s dog for most of his life and wants to be your faithful companion. In return he will provide tons of joy and emotional comfort
