Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet LEXI, available for adoption through Fur the Love of PAWS Rescue! ❤️

#HEREISTHESCOOP 😻
If you aren't familiar with Lexi's story, it is a Heartbreaker. 💔 We want to emphasize to start, we place her mental and physical pain in the hands of two people - the person who didn't spay her mother a year and a half ago and the person who didn't spay HER. So, please don't "why didn't they" or "why wouldn't they" in the comments. The people who helped Lexi over the past couple weeks aren't to blame.

Lexi was trapped after being seen around a neighborhood, by a good Samaritan who then took her to the shelter. The city shelter put her in a cage where cats then wait three days to be claimed. After a couple days, the city shelter (four overworked and very busy) staff noticed that Lexi was completely engorged with milk. They took her to the vet and the vet advised that it was likely too late for a reunion, even if they could - which they couldn't - as she was a fairly new mother. She was given medication (which now made her unable to nurse) and returned to the shelter where she lay in agony not knowing what was happening. 💔

It was absolutely devastating to all involved. Lexi could not be released, per the law. She was in a city shelter and they have rules. Policies.
The good Samaritan that brought her in does have a disability, but still managed to look all over after she learned the news - and did try to find the babies, but couldn't.
I came into the picture after all of this had occurred and Lexi was already on the adoption side. I met the good Samaritan who truly had no idea she was nursing and was just trying to do the right thing. She was extremely sorrowful and felt awful. We all did. But none of this, was OUR FAULT. Refer to the first paragraph of this story for the people who deserve that anger.

On Friday September 13, I posted a portion of her story and her picture at the city shelter where she was and hoped a home would come adopt her. She was in a small cage and still distraught, meowing and bouncing around begging to be let out. She was in distress and it wasn't helping her mental situation at all. She needed to rest. She needed to be calm. She needed to being to heal.
The shelter was open a few hours that day but no one came. It was open the following Saturday but no one came. I hadn't slept thinking of her; scared, confused, in pain. Stuck in that cage.... I pulled her for rescue on September 14 after no one came for her. We stepped up to help this girl who had been let down so many times.... But never again.

After Lexi was with us for about a week, she began to relax a little. However, I noticed that she had a discharge of infection coming from her lady bits. Since she was so engorged with milk, we were letting that dissipate a bit before we spayed her. But, infection of this nature means we need to get in there and get that uterus out, immediately. There's no way to tell if she would have developed full on pyometra on the street nursing her Kittens or not. But it's very likely she would have, which would have been fatal. Everything happens for a reason. We may not understand it. It may be heartbreaking... But here we were.

Lexi was booked for an immediate spay and came through like a champ. She stayed two nights at the vet and then returned to the FURcility.
She is doing marvelous now, considering she grew and carried Kittens for 65 days, terrifyingly gave birth on the street somewhere, was trapped and taken away from them and held in a cage. Then taken to a vet, then returned to the cage. Then taken to another new place.... Still with no babies. With no familiar people. Then another vet. A procedure. More cage. And finally back to the place that was quiet and calm and caring, again. And that's where she will be until we find the forever home of her dreams. One that will cherish her as a true family and nothing less. The way she deserved to be treated all along.
She is definitely ready to just move on.... ❤️
