Meet Ivey, formerly known as Sugar at the shelter. We are sure that she was given that name because of the sweetness of her spirit, and not the gleaming beauty of her white coat, since she was so dirty, we weren't even sure she was white!
Ivey has had a lot of changes in her short life. She first came to animal control when she was picked up as a stray in November of 2018 as a young girl. She was returned to her owner, and then almost immediately was relinquished back to the shelter, because her owner had become homeless and could not care for her. Early in 2019, she was adopted. In August, she was again picked up as a stray. Her owner was contacted, and several voicemails were left, but no one ever showed up to claim this sweet girl. She had only been at the shelter for 6 days this time when we spotted her in a run.
We were immediately drawn to the sweet spirit those shown through those breathtaking amber eyes. When we brought her outside to test her, she was very excited to be outside and make new friends, but controlled herself enough to pass the important test first. We were thrilled when she passed, and hugged all over her, despite the fact that she was filthy, and pretty stinky!! We couldn't wait to give this girl a bath, and get her out of this place!! We were also eager to get her out of a run that housed 8 other dogs, as she showed evidence of fresh wounds - almost unavoidable in this environment.
Ivey is a 2 year old American Bulldog mix, whose ideal body weight is probably 55 pounds. She is happy, bouncy and very, very smart! Her beauty is breathtaking, and her spirit is equally lovely. If you love beautiful smart girls with show stopping looks, you'd better hurry and get your application in for this one! caninecellmates.org
Ivey will be ready to go to her forever home in November, just in time for the holidays!
