My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chops is a 10-mo-old neutered male yellow lab. Chops weighs 55 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

DESCRIPTION:

UPDATE: Dec 27, 2019: Chops was returned as his adopters did not listen to instructions for his settling in period and then when things did not go as planned, decided they "bit off more than they could chew". He has settled right back in at his foster like he never left and is doing well. He loves the other dogs. He still needs time to warm up to new humans and would do best with someone who is 1) patient and willing to give him the space and time he needs to settle in 2) can listen to and follow instructions to give him the structure he needs to be successful 3) has a physical fence and ways to ensure he only goes out in the fenced area 4) has another dog or several dogs in the house to help with his confidence 5) does not expect "instant bonding and gratification" but has the patience to wait for the love to be returned on Chop's terms and lastly 6) is willing to make a couple of visits for Chops to feel a little more at ease with them before taking him home. Chops is a super sweet boy with lots of love to give to the right, patient person.

Oct 15, 2019: Chops is doing really well with contact. He has warmed up to touch with his fosters and also employees, but is only "cuddly" with those he has known a long time. He is venturing to other rooms in the house like the kitchen, especially if yummy hand feeding is involved. He can wear a collar now and does not take exception to the leash being attached however, leash walking is still not in his repertoire as when someone is holding the leash he still will gator roll but his fosters are working hard on that . Chops is crate trained and house trained. His perfect applicants would have the following traits:
1. Multi dog household as he definitely loves other dogs and looks to them for confidence.
2. Adult household. We do not think he would do well with the chaos and noise that usually comes with kids or teenagers in and out.
3. Patient, dog savvy humans who would allow him to do things and warm up at his own pace.
4. A secure fenced yard. No exceptions to this, no efences.
5. Ideally, someone willing to visit with him a few times to let him get to know them before taking him home. He is NOT going to warm up with one visit.

Jul 27, 2019: Chops came to us a scared, basically feral pup several months ago. His foster has been working very hard to socialize him and let him know that people and the world are not so bad. He has been building his confidence a little at a time. He is good with dogs but is still a puppy at heart so can be a little annoying to the older, less playful dogs. He has become much more attentive to people and has started to show more affection and seek human contact more. His foster has been working with the collar and leash but he still sometimes "gator rolls" when the leash goes on so a fenced yard is a must for him. His perfect adopter would be:
1) A home with less chaos and and a family that is willing to show patience and continue to help him grow and learn.
2) A home with another dog to help him with confidence.
3) someone willing to possibly "visit" with him a few times before taking him home.
