Calypso, or Keiko as she's called by her foster mom, is a “people dog” who wants nothing more than to be close to her humans.
Looking for a world class snuggler? She loves nothing more than to settle in next to you to keep you company for whatever you might be doing! She is a smart and sensitive girl with a definite goofy streak.
Her exercise needs are moderate, and she is quiet, calm, and minds her manners in the home. She has great recall off-leash and does very well with other dogs in the park. She loves to play with other dogs, but does have a slightly dominant play style. More submissive, smaller dogs may be overwhelmed by her boisterous and vocal playing, but she is a gentle giant.
Calypso is a nurturing soul who absolutely adores children. She has shown that she understands how to be gentle around children as young as 1 year old.
She is very smart, and fairly trainable but would do best with someone experienced with German Shepherds or other strong-willed dog breeds because she can be stubborn and quite vocal. While eager to please, Calypso was raised in an area where she wasn’t frequently walked on a leash and will need training to perfect her manners.
If you’re looking for a big dog, with a soft heart, and a big personality, Calypso may be the dog for you!
As a purely foster based rescue, we have no central location at which you can visit our dogs. Therefore, we only honor meeting requests from pre-approved adopters, with an application on file. Please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org/forms/ as completely as you can, if you'd like to meet her. Also, please note it may take 24-48 hours to get a response from our busy volunteers. Calypso's adoption fee is $400 which includes transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and micro-chipping. Completion of obedience training is a requirement for adoption through AARF.
