Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sugar is a special beagle mix looking for her special someone. Weighing in at about 15 pounds, this petite, older lady has a lot to say and a lot of love to give. She’s interested in meeting new people and will gladly walk up to say hello while wagging her crazy tail, but if you give her just a little bit more time to fully warm up, she’ll absolutely win your heart.
Sugar is very easily handled. She doesn’t mind being picked up, but she isn’t really a lap dog. Instead, she prefers to snuggle up against you, nesting between you and the couch cushions (nose down, butt up, front feet frantic) until she’s comfy enough to lie down and fall asleep. She loves head scratches and gives bonus points to anyone who will gently rub her sweet muzzle all the way up to that spot between her pretty eyes. She can be rather vocal, especially when she’s hungry. In fact, her best trick is announcing when it’s dinner time (6:30pm, FYI). If she’s not due for a feeding, all she needs is a gentle voice to tell her everything’s okay and her barking will subside.
Sugar loves leash walks and will proudly do all her business during such adventures, but she’s struggling with her housetraining. As such, she currently wears diapers and some spiffy denim overalls to keep them in place. Her fosters are working on following her more closely to determine her “tell” for when she needs to potty so they can rush her out and reward her for a job well done. In the meantime, she’ll keep rocking the tiny hillbilly look.
Sugar is a healthy senior. She has a slightly enlarged heart (not uncommon in older dogs) that requires no medication. She’s also a little stiff in her back end, so continued use of joint supplements is recommended in her new home. She’s fine with other low-key dogs and ignores cats, although we think she’d also do fine as an only pet.
Please contact Midwest BREW if you would like more information on sweet little Sugar.
NOTE: Dogs may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
