My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Masako (saveshibas@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Handsome senior Shiba

Twister is a sweet and beautiful senior Shiba Inu. He is 12+ years old. A beautiful blk/tan Shiba that is very sweet, and looking for a comfortable home to spend his senior days in. He is microchipped, current on vaccines and neutered. A sweet boy that likes yummy treats - he first showed up in the shelter pretty scared, but has opened up and is very adorable.

We would love to find him a nice quiet home where he can enjoy his retirement years. About him...
-He is mostly deaf. He won’t come by calling.
-He is partially blind. He can see about 25%-50%
-He has Spondylosis and Hip Dyspraxia. He walks funny. He can’t sit. Laying down is painful for him. Jumping may worsen his hip. He is not a dog to train tricks. His tail is not curled up like normal Shiba’s.
-He walks slow. I mean slow. And stubborn about where he wants to go.
-There is a possibility he needs a brace or wheelchair in the future. But Dr suggested to keep his legs moving on their own until they really give up. It’s important for his mental happiness. He’ll lose muscle and balance as soon as those artificial support is introduced.
-Other than things above, he is pretty healthy and happy. He is curious about everything and is a wonderful companion. When I’m working at desk or sitting on the couch, he would just take a nap by my legs.
-He gets to be playful sometimes but his back legs often can’t catch up. He can’t make a quick move either. So I’d avoid a family with a young children or high energy dog(s).
-No known allergies
-He needs to go out every 3-4 hours or so. He can sleep through the night though.
-No aggression towards other dogs or humans. He may try to nip new dogs getting too close to him, but he is ok once the dog learns personal space.
-He might appreciate to have company of a calm dog. We don’t know about him with other animals like cats.
-He can be a little aggressive when it comes to food. So we feed him separate from other dogs
-He does NOT like to be in a pen (and probably kennel too). He wants to be with others. Also he has to be the one who decides where he goes lol
-We’re giving him CBD oil, Glucosamine, fish oil, pumpkin and probiotics. The first three seem to be really helping to manage his pain. The latter two are helping his regular poop cycle (he tends to have either constipation or too soft poop them). Tramadol makes him terrible constipation and we want the adopter continues CBD oil

Shibas are quiet, clean and loyal dogs that enjoy being near their family. The Shiba-Inu is a primitive breed, and a living national monument in their native Japan. They are not very affectionate dogs, but are extremely loyal to their family/owner. Similar to the Japanese Akita because of their appearance and fierce loyalty, Shiba-Inus are a great breed to adopt because they are small-sized dogs that are smart and loyal.

**All Saving Shibas Inc dogs must be adopted by families willing to have their pets be a part of their family and must be allowed inside—especially at night. No dog is allowed to be put on a “tie-out” or chain outside and should be walked on a leash when not in a fenced yard.
**All Saving Shibas Inc dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations prior to adoption.
**Available pets maybe visited via appointment with foster. Seeking those familiar with this breed, that will adore this handsome guy. He would be an awesome addition to the right home!
