Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Nina is a dachshund mix who is just under one year old. She’s a beautiful girl – people stop us on the street all the time to comment on how gorgeous she is! Her expressions are golden and she has an inscrutable stare that is hilarious. She knows sit, stay, lie down, shake, high-five, up, and spin. We’re working on ‘walk nicely’.
She is very affectionate and loves to give kisses. She likes humans more than she likes dogs. She will greet other dogs on walks and occasionally she’ll want to play if she meets another puppy or young dog, but she’s really a ‘people’ dog. She lives in downtown Vancouver at the moment and loves meeting all the different people here. She isn’t bothered by loud noises (including fireworks and sirens).
She is moderate energy and is very adaptable. She loves cuddling and napping on the sofa. She will cuddle up, or lie right on top of you to nap. She’s fine being left alone for several hours. She gets excited when she’s sees people running, so while not necessary, I think she’d love it if someone would take her jogging with them every now and then.
I think she is best as an only dog, as she’s shown some resource guarding when other dogs have come into the home. If someone was willing to work on this, she’d probably be fine with another dog around. She’s been fine with children that we’ve met but not tested in the home. I think adult only home, or home with older children would be best. Not cat tested.
She needs someone who will be very vigilant as she will eat pretty much anything she encounters on walks, and she’s surprisingly strong and very quick when there’s something she wants! She will also destroy toys, and she’ll swallow the pieces if you don’t get to her in time! She’s currently on a hypoallergenic diet with no chicken or beef, and she’s doing great and is just about up to her goal weight of 7 kg. She’s just a fantastic dog who will brighten every day!
