Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Smokey has been in our program for several weeks now . He was in pretty rough shape when he came into our program. His previous owners were an older couple and he was becoming too much to handle and to take care of. His fur was clumped and matted, and in some areas it was missing and he was very much underweight. After a visit to the vet, it was discovered that he had mange and a bad ear infection. We also noticed an issue with his hips and it seems that he may have hip dysplasia. We won’t know exactly what that issue is until we get x-rays done while he is under for surgery for his neutering.
☹️
But Smokey hasn’t let any of his issues slow him down! He is dog friendly but can be a bit pushy sometimes. He is slowly learning to respect another dog's personal space in his current foster home. He may do well with a young, submissive dog that can tolerate his level of play. He is also still learning how to live with cats and needs to be reminded that they are not to be chased. He would do well with a confident, dog-savvy cat.
Smokey is an active chewer and destroyer of toys and shoes and is very much a Velcro dog. You will never be able to use the bathroom or sleep by yourself, ever again. Due to a lack of training and early correction, Smokey still has some puppy-like qualities to him. He likes to jump on people and can still be a bit mouthy sometimes but is easily correctable. Because of this and his energy level, we recommend a home with older children.
Smokey is up-to-date on his vaccines and will be neutered shortly. This boy is a diamond in the rough and a great dog for almost any family!
