Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is Zach, who was found wandering with another intact male dog in southwestern Va. He was taken in by a family who was trying to find him a home. They found a home for the other dog, but had to move, so turned Him over to a local rescue person who contacted Akita Rescue. When he arrived at the rescue person's location, he was in a car with 7 kids. He was heartworm positive, has been treated, will be neutered next Nov 5. He also has arthritis in his knees, which does not seem to affect him except for a slightly strange gait. I love Zach and would love to keep him, but he would kill my cats if I let him near them. So no cats or small dogs for Zach. Zach rides well in a car..on the way back from sa VA, we ran into a horrible t-storm, vivid lightning, booming thunder that shook the car at times, hail that pounded the car like a drum and he did not blink. This 5-6 yr old male really likes people, has been good with the kids in the neighborhood when he could go for a walk, shows no aggression toward my dogs when they crowd his crate, walks well on leash, crates well . All this and he stunning !!! Lovely head, tail, he stops people in their tracks !!
11-29-13 Zach is finished his heartworm treatment and has been neutered. He has much more energy now, but still remains the nice guy that he has been. He walks 1/2 mile on his walks and it does not seem to affect his knees. he does 'bunny hop' when he runs. He is still the handsome head turner he was and still likes people. He will need someone who has experience with the breed or dominant dogs
